Scouting report

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Carolina Panthers

Chris Olave picked up right where he left off in 2022 with a 100-yard performance in Week 1 against the Titans. Olave also led the team with 10 targets, quickly gaining a connection with Derek Carr. That should continue, especially against a banged-up Carolina secondary with Jaycee Horn injured. Olave is right on the cusp of WR1 territory.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Tennessee Titans

Coming off a sensational rookie season, Chris Olave is back and now has Derek Carr throwing him the football. That's an improvement already, so Olave still has room to grow and he starts this season off against a Titans team that is questionable in the backend of the defense. Olave could have plenty of opportunity downfield on Sunday. Olave is a strong WR2 this week.

NO WR Chris Olave - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Even with the combination of Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton at quarterback, Chris Olave was one of the best rookie wide receivers last season with over 1,000 yards receiving. Now he'll catch passes from Derek Carr, a clear upgrade at the position. Olave is only going to get better and should absolutely improve on his four touchdown catches from last season.

Fantasy Downside
The Saints will likely spread the ball out a bit with a healthier Michael Thomas and Rashid Shaheed. He also doesn't exactly have an elite quarterback, but still a decent one, in Derek Carr. But Olave is a stud and there aren't many downsides to his fantasy value.

2023 Bottom Line
Olave is squarely in the WR1 conversation for lineups and will definitely compete to be a weekly top-ten option. It shouldn't take much for him to surpass his touchdown total last season and to eclipse 1,000 yards for a second season in a row to start his career. Olave is a safe pick in fantasy, even if your first couple of picks don't include a wide receiver.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Philadelphia Eagles

Chris Olave hasn't exactly cooled off, but his numbers have been that of a flex play of late, going between 50-70 yards over the last three weeks. This week, he'll run into either Darius Slay or James Bradberry as the Saints visit the Eagles. A tough matchup no matter how you spin it. Quarterback Andy Dalton also will likely be rattled by the Eagles' defensive front, so Olave may be limited in targets. Consider Olave a mid-range flex WR3/Flex option this week,

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Chris Olave has at least 50 yards in all but two games and has at least 60 yards in three straight. With Atlanta presenting a great matchup for Olave, that streak should continue this week, especially coming off a much-needed bye in Week 14. Olave had 41 yards in his debut in Week 1, before he started taking off shortly thereafter. Olave is a borderline WR1 this week with plenty of upside and absolutely worth a start this week to help advance you in the playoffs.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

No rookie wall for Chris Olave. He has more than held his own while Michael Thomas has been out (and with the recent return of Jarvin Landry). Olave has at least five catches in five of his last six games. He also had five catches in Week 2 in the Saints' first meeting with the Bucs this season. Olave is a low-end WR2 and a very strong WR3/flex option on Monday night before heading into his bye week.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at San Francisco 49ers

Chris Olave took advantage of a depleted Rams defense to go for 102 yards and a touchdown. He remains the clear favorite in the Saints' passing attack. Just by the volume alone makes him fantasy-worthy each week, even though he faces one of his toughest tests this season, on the road against the 49ers. He's a solid WR2, definitely a strong flex this week.
