Scouting report

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Chicago Bears

Christian Kirk was limited to just two catches on five targets for 25 yards against the Seahawks before the bye last week. It was a disappointing total for Kirk, who had strung together a few decent PPR performances leading up to the game, but he’s still averaging 5.5 targets per game this year and is clearly an active part of the offense.

This week, Kirk faces a Bears defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. With DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green both healthy, it’s hard to trust Kirk getting a full slate of targets, so fantasy managers should be wary of starting him as more than a boom-or-bust WR3 option, despite having a nice matchup.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Seattle Seahawks

Christian Kirk led the team with seven catches on eight targets for 58 yards last week against the Panthers. Kirk has 13 catches over his past two games with DeAndre Hopkins out and Colt McCoy at quarterback, so it’s encouraging that he’s producing modest PPR numbers when the offense struggles.

This week, Kirk faces a Seahawks defense that ranks eighth in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. He’s been able to flirt with fringe WR2 numbers for much of the season, and he should find similar success again this week. Consider him a solid WR3 or flex option in deeper leagues.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Carolina Panthers

Christian Kirk caught all six of his targets last week against the 49ers, gaining 91 yards and also throwing a 33-yard pass. Kirk led the team in targets as the Cardinals only threw the ball 27 times all game in a lopsided victory. He’s been his usual inconsistent self this season but stands to benefit when both DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green are out. Hopkins is still dealing with a hamstring injury, and Green missed last week on the COVID list, so if either player is inactive again, Kirk has low-end WR2 potential against a tough Panthers defense that ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. He’s always risky, but is worth considering in deep leagues, even if just one of those other Cardinals’ starters is out. If everyone plays, Kirk returns to deep, high-risk-reward WR3 territory.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at San Francisco 49ers

Christian Kirk continued his volatile ways with a modest four catches for 46 yards last week against the Packers. He did have six targets, however, and has at least five targets in all but two games this season. Kirk is a big play waiting to happen, so as long as you’re willing to risk one of his down games, he’s worth considering week-to-week.

This week, Kirk faces a 49ers defense that ranks 21st in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Kirk has upside in a nice matchup, in his usual boom-or-bust sort of way, but watch the status of A.J. Green, who was placed on the COVID list earlier this week. If Green is inactive, Kirk’s targets could go up, making him worth considering as a WR3 option with high risk-reward.

Update: The added targets from Hopkins likely being out - as well as Green - are offset by the likely start of Colt McCoy at quarterback. He remains a high risk-reward option.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Green Bay Packers

Christian Kirk is always a volatile option, but he’s managed to find the end zone in two straight games after catching four balls for 50 yards and a touchdown last week against the Texans. Kirk is hard to trust since he explodes for big production one game and then lays an egg the next, but he’s had double-digit half-PPR points in four of seven games this season, so he has value.

This week, Kirk faces a Packers defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. It’s dangerous to go with him after he’s had a couple of good games, because it feels like a disappointment is bound to happen, but in a nice matchup and in this explosive offense, he’s worth considering as a WR3 option if you can afford to play it a little risky.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Houston Texans

Christian Kirk has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career as a fantasy option, but he had a nice game last week in a lopsided win over the Browns. He caught five of his eight targets for 75 yards and a touchdown. Kirk is a risky option, but is always a threat for a big game, giving him WR3 potential in a week with so many teams on bye. Fantasy managers should temper expectations, as he’s still a little boom-or-bust, but the potential makes him worth considering if you’re desperate.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Cleveland Browns

Christian Kirk caught five balls last week against the 49ers, but he gained just 39 yards receiving to go with 11 rushing yards on one carry. Kirk can put up great numbers, but he’s so inconsistent it’s hard to trust him in lineups. It looks like we’re staring down another season of Kirk as a much better late-round best ball target than viable redraft starter. There’s upside for him against the Browns, who just played a shootout with the Chargers last week, but I wouldn’t trust him. We have him ranked outside starting territory this week and managers should bench him if possible.
