ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. San Francisco 49ers

Christian Kirk was off to a decent start to the season until he had just one catch on his lone target for five yards against the Rams last week. Kirk is capable of putting up solid WR2 numbers in any given week, but the Cardinals’ passing game has been feeding everyone at times so far this year, making it hard to guess when he’ll bust out. That’s always been the thing with Kirk – trying to guess the right weeks – so I suppose it should be expected. This week he faces a tough 49ers defense that ranks 13th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers, so sit him after a dismal Week 4 performance.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Los Angeles Rams

Christian Kirk had seven catches for 104 yards last week against the Jaguars, and tied with Chase Edmonds for a team-high eight targets. Kirk was supposed to fade behind A.J. Green and rookie Rondale Moore, but so far this season, he leads the team in receiving yards and is second in receptions and receiving touchdowns to Edmonds and DeAndre Hopkins, respectively. Kirk seems to be growing as a part of this offense and has upside moving forward.

This week, Kirk faces a Rams defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. It’s hard to know what kind of impact there was on his usage with DeAndre Hopkins limited – although Hopkins was still on the field for 91% of the offensive snaps – but Jalen Ramsey likely covering Hopkins should leave some openings for Kirk again. We have Kirk ranked just outside of WR3 territory, but he has some upside for risky fantasy managers hoping to hit a home run.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Christian Kirk followed up his two-touchdown performance from Week 1 with three catches for 65 yards against the Vikings last week. The Cardinals’ offense looks like one worth buying into, and one where each receiver has a chance to go off in any given week. Kirk has been especially good at these bursts of production over his career, making him a huge boom/bust option.

This week, Kirk might be worth gambling on against the Jaguars, who gave up a touchdown to Tim Patrick last week and have been struggling on both sides of the ball in Urban Meyer’s initial season. Kirk is risky, and we have ranked outside WR3 territory, but he has some boom/bust upside for desperate managers.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Christian Kirk had five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns in a lopsided victory over the Titans last week. He clearly outplayed A.J. Green, despite Green out-snapping him 55 to 39. Kirk is prone to these explosions from time to time, but he usually comes crashing down to earth shortly after.

The Vikings really struggled in the secondary last year, and they gave up touchdowns to Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase in Week 1, so the upside is there for Kirk to produce in this matchup. Still, it’s risky to trust him as he’s been so inconsistent throughout his career. We have him ranked outside our top-50 this week, so he should remain on the bench.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Los Angeles Rams

Christian Kirk caught seven of 10 balls for 76 yards last week in a loss to the 49ers. Don’t get too excited. Kirk will have these explosions from time to time, but it was his first game with more than three receptions since mid-November. With Jalen Ramsey likely covering DeAndre Hopkins this week, there may be some additional targets headed Kirk’s way again this week, but it’s not exciting enough to warrant serious fantasy consideration in most leagues. He’s too boom-or-bust to count on in the championship week.

Update: With Kirk out, definitely get him out of your lineup. While we could see an increase in targets to KeeSean Johnson or Andy Isabella, DeAndre Hopkins remains the only Cardinals WR worth starting.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Christian Kirk had three catches for 14 yards last week against the Giants. He has struggled recently, with single-digit fantasy points in every game since November 8th against the Dolphins. After six touchdowns in his first seven games, he’s been held scoreless over his last five. Even in a nice matchup against the Eagles, it’s hard to trust Kirk outside of very deep leagues. He has some boom-or-bust potential as a deep-league WR3, but most fantasy owners should look for someone more consistent.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Christian Kirk had just three catches and 19 yards on six targets last week against the Patriots. The Cardinals’ offense stalled and they’ve now lost three of their last four games – their win coming off a Hail Mary touchdown to DeAndre Hopkins in the closing seconds against the Bills. Kirk has just 96 total yards over the past three games combined, concerning for fantasy owners looking to the playoffs.

Kirk has a little upside this week against a really good Rams defense that ranks number one in the league in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. While it’s definitely a difficult matchup, he may benefit from Jalen Ramsey playing mostly against DeAndre Hopkins, perhaps directing more targets towards Kirk. Still, it’s risky to trust him in a bad matchup after struggling the past three games. He’s been very touchdown-dependent all year, and if he can’t find the end zone against the Rams, he’s likely in for another single-digit fantasy day. Sit him.
