Scouting report

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Minnesota Vikings

No matter the talent up against him, Dalton Schultz has performed. He has at least six receptions and 45 yards in five of six games in 2021 and is the clear TE1 in Dallas. The Minnesota Vikings have done well against opposing tight ends and limited T.J. Hockenson (albeit injured) to 2/22 Week 5. With the number of offensive weapons on Dallas, expect Schultz to slip through the cracks enough to be a TE1 Week 8.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Patriots

Schultz will have his most difficult matchup in Week 6 against the New England Patriots. New England is fourth in tight end aFPA and has not allowed one to top 30 yards receiving. The position as a whole has only caught one touchdown on 11 receptions. Week 5 was the first time the Patriots allowed over 30 yards to the position in one week. Schultz has been excellent through five games and has a chance to put up the most fantasy points at the position. He ranks 10th in 4for4’s Week 6 tight end rankings.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs Giants

Schultz has been the tight end breakout through the first month of the season. He is one touchdown short of tying his career-best mark from 2020, and that is with Blake Jarwin healthy. Schultz has stepped in as the number three passing option with Michael Gallup on IR and has a chance to put up TE1 numbers against the Giants’ 29th-ranked defense against the tight end position.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs Carolina Panthers

Dalton Schultz continued to see at least 10% more snaps than fellow tight end Blake Jarwin and also logged the best day either has had through three weeks. Schultz also saw a 7-2 target over Jarwin. There is clear volatility at the tight end position in Dallas but Schultz has seen 1.67 more targets per game than Jarwin through three weeks. Schultz is outside the TE1 rankings but is a consideration in tight end-premium leagues.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Eagles

One week after seeing six targets, Schultz managed two in a Cowboys win. He is averaging more yards and receptions per game than Blake Jarwin, but neither has done enough to pull away as a legitimate option in fantasy. The Eagles have allowed 12 receptions to the tight end position through two weeks with eight of them coming against Atlanta’s two-tight end setup. That is where your intrigue for Schultz will come in Week 3.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Chargers

As long as the receiving work is split between Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz, it is difficult to trust either. Jarwin caught three of four targets for 20 yards in Week 1 compared to Schultz’s 6/6/45. This is a solid return for those that waited out the Cowboys' tight end position, but unless Schultz can land a similar catch and yardage mark, he will be streamer fodder at best. The good thing is 34% of Dak Prescott’s throws were to the tight end position.

DAL TE Dalton Schultz - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Buccaneers
Dalton Schultz was thrust into the lead tight end role once Blake Jarwin was injured in the first half of the first game last season. He ended as a borderline TE1 and gets the TE1 tag heading into Week 1. As good as Tampa’s defense has looked, it ranks 22nd in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends. Schultz’s floor is zero with a handful of offensive weapons competing for targets, but his 2021 outlook could be previewed Thursday night.
