Fantasy Upside
Darrell Henderson is now the lone back from the Rams 2020 backfield with Cam Akers injured and Malcolm Brown in Miami. Henderson was PFF’s 3rd-rated pass-blocking running back and has value in the passing game. His targets and receptions will keep him more than relevant should the Rams bring in another running back via free agency and the competition on the Rams roster is that in words only. Prior to Akers’ breakout in Week 13, Henderson had six games with double-digit rushes and multiple targets in a committee-like role. With no true competition on the Rams roster, Henderson’s touch upside is high.
Fantasy Downside
The running back position is volatile and we have seen players come off the street and take over backfields. If the Rams sign a free agent, Henderson’s current elevated ADP and projected production will come down. The Rams have also felt okay going away from Henderson as a top option, hence the drafting of Akers. He will have to navigate a brutal opening schedule with three straight matchups against top 10 run defenses to open the season, according to 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Positional Defensive Rankings.
Henderson is also not the biggest back at 5’8” 208 lbs. There are legit concerns about his ability to carry a starter’s load for a full season. Henderson’s 2020 ended Week 13 because of a high ankle sprain.
2021 Bottom Line
Henderson is in a prime spot to be an RB2 in a high-powered offense, but size concerns and the constant rumors of adding another option in the backfield make the former Memphis RB a medium risk with higher upside.
