CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Los Angeles Rams

David Montgomery ran 17 times for 60 yards and no touchdowns in his last game. He's getting plenty of opportunities as a runner, even though he hasn't done a whole lot (3.6 ypc). He's been a solid option in fantasy, providing fairly consistent RB2 numbers. This week could be different though as Montgomery missed practice on Thursday. He's questionable with an ankle injury so his health is worth monitoring. If he does play, he gets a fairly tough matchup against the Rams. He should be viewed as a lower-end RB2, assuming he's active.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Detroit Lions

We told you David Montgomery wasn't going to be able to keep up the pace he had in Week 8. But he still played well, finishing with 76 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. He's now scored in three of his last four games, and the game where he didn't was an anomaly as he had just two carries. He should be a strong start this week against the Lions who are allowing the most fantasy points to running backs. With the Bears giving him touches, Montgomery should be a borderline RB1 play in Week 10.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Philadelphia Eagles

Matt Nagy lived up to his promise and gave David Montgomery the ball. After finishing with just two carries in Week 7, Montgomery ran the ball 27 times in Week 8 for a season-high 135 yards. He even added four receptions for 12 yards. While 31 touches is nice, don't expect that moving forward. But the general trend of Montgomery getting the ball more should continue. He might struggle a bit this week against a tough Eagles run defense, though. Philly is allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. Montgomery should be viewed as a low-end RB2 or strong flex play against the Eagles.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

David Montgomery was essentially a no-show last week as the Bears abandoned the run game. Montgomery only ran the ball twice for six yards and caught two passes for 13. He played on 46% of the offensive snaps, which was his lowest number since Week 2 this season. He should get back on track as it seems unlikely the Bears will just quit running the ball as they did against the Saints. He gets a decent matchup this week against the Chargers where he should be able to put up borderline RB2 numbers. He should be viewed as a solid flex play in Week 8.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. New Orleans Saints

David Montgomery is Chicago's primary backfield option and he's emerged as a decent fantasy option. He struggled against the Raiders in Chicago's last outing, rushing 11 times for 25 yards, but he was able to score for the second time this season. Before that game, though, he averaged about 60 yards per game on the ground with a few receptions sprinkled in. Expect that type of performance this week in a tough matchup against the Saints. He should be viewed as a low-end RB2 or a strong flex play in Week 7.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Oakland Raiders

David Montgomery is in full command of the Bears' backfield at the moment. His companion from Week 1 (Mike Davis) was inactive in Week 4, allowing Montgomery to take over. He played 69% of the offensive snaps (season-high) and carried the ball 21 times (season-high) for 53 yards. He also caught three of five targets for 14 yards. He gets a poor matchup this week against Oakland as the Raiders haven't been kind to backs so far in 2019. Their defense is allowing just 3.9 yards per carry, which is 10th-lowest in the league. Still, with Trubisky likely out, the Bears will lean on Montgomery once again and he should be a solid RB2 option.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Minnesota Vikings

After an odd Week 1 of split carries, it looks like David Montgomery is now in control of this backfield. He led the team in carries in Week 3, rushing 13 times for 67 yards. He also saw a major snap count boost as he's progressed from 38% in Week 1 to 44% in Week 2 and 67% in Week 3. Also, his backup, Mike Davis, went from playing 41 snaps in Week 1 to seeing just one snap in Week 3.

So Montgomery's value as a whole has gone up, but this week will be a tough task for him. Minnesota is allowing the ninth-fewest fantasy points to backs this season. The Vikings have allowed fewer than 20 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs in the first three weeks. Montgomery is a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 play.
