CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New Orleans Saints

David Montgomery has been consistently average this season. He has a poor 4.4 yards per touch, but with Tarik Cohen injured, Montgomery sees a lot of volume. He's averaged 18.1 touches in three games where Cohen has been absent. The biggest change is his increase in receptions, giving Montgomery a boost in PPR formats, that was essentially non-existent before Cohen's injury. The biggest weakness in Montgomery's game so far this season has been his lack of touchdowns (2). He'll get a tough matchup this week against the Saints who are No. 3 in aFPA running backs. But Montgomery should get enough volume to make him a low-end RB2 play.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Los Angeles Rams

David Montgomery's value has significantly been impacted by the loss of Tarik Cohen. Montgomery went from averaging 51% of the offensive snaps in three games with Cohen to averaging 83% of the offensive snaps in three games without Cohen. He's also benefited as a receiver, averaging three targets per game with Cohen to averaging 6.3 without him. The interesting part, however, is Montgomery has totaled fewer yards without Cohen (213 yards) than with (255). So even though he's been on the field more often, the production hasn't quite been there. Despite Montgomery not being a dominant back, he's still been productive as an RB2 back. He gets a decent matchup against the Rams (No. 18 aFPA) in Week 7 where he'll be a low-end RB1, or high-end RB2 play.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Carolina Panthers

The Bears have turned to David Montgomery as a receiving threat as he nearly matched his carries (10) with receptions (7) last week. With Tarik Cohen out, Montgomery has now seen six and eight targets in back-to-back weeks, respectively. Montgomery found the endzone last week, but otherwise wasn't terribly productive with 59 yards on 17 touches. He should be more productive this week in a favorable matchup against the Panthers, who are 32 in aFPA. The Panthers have allowed a league-high nine touchdowns to running backs. Carolina is also tied with Atlanta in giving up the most receptions to running backs this season. With Montgomery's increased role as a receiver, it wouldn't be surprising if he had 5+ receptions. He should be viewed as a low-end RB1 or a strong RB2 play this week.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With Tarik Cohen absent, David Montgomery saw an increased workload. He played on 85% of the offensive snaps in Week 4, beating his previous season-high of 56%. Montgomery also saw a career-high six targets last week, finishing 3-30 as a receiver. On the ground, he had 10 carries for 27 yards. Things won't get much easier for Montgomery this week as he faces a tough Buccaneers run defense. The Bucs are No. 2 in aFPA to running backs. The Bucs have allowed the second-fewest rushing yards to running backs through the first four weeks of the season. Montgomery should be viewed as a lower-end RB2 play in Week 5.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Colts

David Montgomery finished with 16 touches for 54 yards in Week 3, and still hasn't scored a touchdown on the ground. Montgomery has only seen four redzone attempts this season compared to 26 for Chicago's quarterbacks. The Bears have had two huge fourth-quarter comebacks this season, which helps explain why they're passing so much. Montgomery should see an increased workload moving forward as Tarik Cohen has been placed on IR. He gets a tough matchup this week against the Colts, who are fourth in aFPA. We're projecting around 80-90 yards for Montgomery, making him a solid RB2 play in Week 4.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Atlanta Falcons

David Montgomery had a really nice Week 2 game, finishing with 127 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. He has a firm grasp on the starting running back job as Tarik Cohen hasn't been very involved for Chicago through the first two weeks. In fact, Montgomery is out-producing Cohen as a receiver, seeing double the targets (6 to 3) in the first two games. Montgomery is doing just enough as a runner and receiver to put him in strong RB2 range. He doesn't get a great matchup this week, but we don't see him struggling too much. We're projecting around 70 scrimmage yards.

CHI RB David Montgomery - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New York Giants

David Montgomery had a typical David Montgomery game in Week 1, rushing 13 times for 64 yards and catching just one pass for 10 yards. Montgomery and Tarik Cohen essentially split snaps with Cohen (30) playing one more snap than Montgomery (29). Cordarrelle Patterson was also involved, stealing four carries for himself. Expect similar usage from Montgomery moving forward (around 15 touches), which would put him in RB3 range. He gets a decent matchup against the Giants in Week 2, who just allowed a 100-yard game to Benny Snell in Week 1.
