Scouting report

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Denver Broncos

DK Metcalf wasn't all that bad when Geno Smith started last season while Russell Wilson was hurt. Metcalf caught three touchdown passes in that stretch and averaged six targets per game. If Smith is going to keep the Seahawks offense afloat, he'll keep looking Metcalf's way. But Denver continues to look strong in the secondary and Metcalf may see plenty of Patrick Surtain on Monday. That should be a very exciting matchup. Still, Metcalf always has upside and slots in as a WR2 this week.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
When we talk about DK Metcalf, we still think of the freakish athletic ability and scoring upside. Metcalf had almost 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns last year, giving him 29 touchdowns in three seasons. He should also be motivated as he enters a contract year. Despite what felt like a down year at times, Metcalf still finished as WR12 last season.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Russell Wilson is in Denver now and there’s no telling who the starting quarterback will be, though most expect Geno Smith to beat out Drew Lock. His numbers also took a bit of a dive in the second half of the season. Eight of his 12 touchdowns came in the first eight games of the season. Metcalf is also hoping to bounce back from having only one game above 100 yards last season and only two games with at least 60 yards in his last nine games.

2022 Bottom Line
The fantasy outlook for Metcalf and the Seattle offense would likely look better if Smith beats out Lock. But the constant upside we always talk about with Metcalf and the hope for a new contract could produce another strong season for him, making him a solid WR2 option, currently No. 21 on our WR board.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Lions

It was finally nice to see DK Metcalf score a touchdown again. It was his first since Week 8 and the first since Seattle's bye week. On the other hand, it was his fifth game since the bye with under 50 yards receiving. He's certainly tough to figure out at this point and Detroit has been playing pretty well of late. Dan Campbell has his players ready to go. This should be quite interesting for Metcalf. Still, he ranks 19th among fantasy wide receivers in half-PPR this week.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Bears

With Tyler Lockett out last week, DK Metcalf saw a season-high 12 targets and caught six passes for 52 yards. But he is still without a touchdown in what is now six straight games. Chicago is No. 12 against opposing fantasy wide receivers and gave up a touchdown to Justin Jefferson last week. Is this the week Metcalf finally ends the drought? He's our No. 19 WR this week.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Rams

If there is a week for DK Metcalf to finally get back in fantasy owner's good graces, this is the week. His running mate, Tyler Lockett, was just placed on the reserve/Covid list while Rams CB Jalen Ramsey is still on their list. Both Lockett and Ramsey are vaccinated and could potentially still play Sunday. But it's all right there for Metcalf to finally bust out again, just when Seattle and his fantasy owners need him the most.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Texans

DK Metcalf got back into the groove a bit last week against the 49ers. His five catches and 60 yards were the most in each category since Seattle's bye in Week 9. He's also back to being on the field almost the entire time. After a stretch of playing between 70-80 percent of snaps, he's played all but 15 snaps in the last three games. He has eight targets in three of his last four games. We just need to get him in the end zone for the first time since Week 8. That very well could happen Sunday against the Texans.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs 49ers

DK? DK? Wherefore art thou DK Metcalf? It's mind-boggling that Metcalf almost posted a goose egg on Monday, getting his lone catch very late in the game. 31 yards is the most he's had in a game in the three since Seattle's bye. And after having a strong touchdown stretch before the bye, Metcalf has been shut out in that department since the bye. The good news is Metcalf was successful in the first meeting with the 49ers, posting a 4/65/1 line.
