The Washington Football Team will start quarterback Kyle Allen over Dwayne Haskins Sunday against the Rams.

Fantasy Impact: 

Some reports are indicating that Haskins will be moved to the third quarterback spot on the depth chart and Alex Smith will be Allen's immediate backup. This is a sign that the franchise's confidence in Haskins is waning as he continues to struggle to adjust to NFL defenses. Inserting Allen into the starting lineup probably does not have a huge impact on skill players like Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson for fantasy as neither Allen nor Haskins have shown much as a starting NFL quarterback to this point.

Washington Head Coach Ron Rivera announced on Wednesday that QB Dwayne Haskins will start Week 1.

Fantasy Impact: 

This was fully expected despite the assertion of a quarterback competition at Washington's training camp. Haskins was inconsistent as a rookie last year but showed flashes of his potential and dealt with a shaky supporting cast. He will enter 2020 looking to make a big sophomore leap throwing to the likes of Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims Jr., and TE Logan Thomas.

Although Ron Rivera promised a competition of sorts at quarterback, Dwayne Haskins worked almost entirely with the first-team offense during the camp practices that were open to the media. Any notion of a battle for the job faded in the early going, and as competition within the team intensified and the offensive installations increased, Haskins gained a firm hold on the QB1 spot — if it was ever his to really lose.

Rivera still refuses to declare Haskins the Week 1 starter; when asked when he would do so, Rivera playfully responded: “The 13th, right? That’s the opener,” the story said. But when describing the young quarterback’s play over the past couple of weeks, Rivera has regularly cited his growth, included his decision making.

Now a week into the portion of training camp that includes practices with pads, Logan Thomas has shown glimpses of what he could be, especially in the red zone, where he’s become a top target for Dwayne Haskins. Last season Washington ranked 27th in the red-zone scoring, with 48.8 percent of its drives inside the 20 resulting in points.

Fantasy Impact: 

Thomas is actually new to the position, but it's part of a culture change HC Ron Rivera is hoping to bring to Washington. Thomas is just 38th on our TE list so if you want him, you'll likely have the chance to draft him very late in drafts. In typical 10 and 12 leagues, he's mostly hitting the free agent wire. It's worth noting he's a top target for Haskins, the story said.
