BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had a nice game last week with four receptions for 86 yards, plus he led the team in targets with eight. Brown has upside as a big-play threat every week, but the Ravens’ passing attack has been hard to trust, especially in lopsided victories like last week over Washington.

This week, Brown will face a Bengals defense that ranks 23rd in aFPA to opposing wide receivers, giving him significant upside in a nice matchup. Also, the Bengals’ offense ranks 18th in points scored per game. That’s not great, but it means they should be able to put up enough of a fight to keep the Ravens from abandoning the pass. Brown is a high upside WR2 option in all leagues this week.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Washington Football Team

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had a disappointing game against the Chiefs – along with the rest of the Baltimore offense – catching just two of the six balls thrown his way for 13 yards. He was wildly inconsistent last year, but it’s encouraging to see him start this season with three straight games with six targets. The Ravens may not throw enough, consistently enough, to warrant Brown as an every-week starter, but he’s going to put up some big stat lines, and six targets should be enough to get him there on occasion.

This week, Brown will look to bounce back against a Washington defense that ranks 16th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers so far this season, as the team has been better than expected on that side of the ball. Brown seems like a boom-bust option as a WR2, as the Ravens might get up early and run the ball, but he’s a solid WR3 in all league formats because of his big-play ability and the targets he’s been getting.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown only had 42 yards last week against the Texans, but he led the team with six targets, his second consecutive game with that many. Brown is the top option in the Baltimore receiving corps, and while Mark Andrews will continue to siphon away targets and touchdowns, Brown’s star seems like it’s still rising. He’s a big play waiting to happen, but is getting the target volume necessary to develop into a consistent fantasy producer, and not just a boom-bust starter each week.

This week, Brown should be active in all leagues as a potential WR2 option. He’ll face a Chiefs defense that contained him last year, but just gave up seven catches and 96 yards to Keenan Allen. Plus, the Ravens might find themselves in a rare moment of negative game script, with the Chiefs’ explosive offense. Start Brown.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Houston Texans

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had a nice start to the season, catching five balls for 101 yards in a blowout victory over the Browns. Brown was wildly inconsistent last year, but he tied for the team-lead with six targets in Week 1, which is a good sign for his long-term potential. Lamar Jackson continues to grow as a passer, and his rapport with Brown should grow right along with it.

This week, Brown faces a Texans defense that gave up three touchdown passes last week to the Chiefs, although largely contained the big play. The longest pass play by the Chiefs was just 19 yards. Still, the Texans allowed a pair of touchdowns to the Chiefs’ wideouts last week and looked a bit rusty to start off the season. Brown is risky because of his inconsistency a year ago, but the conditions are right for him to excel in Week 2. Start him as a low-end WR2 option.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Cleveland Browns

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had some big games last year, but he also had some terrible outings on his way to 584 yards and seven touchdowns. This year, the Ravens will hope he finds more consistency as they seek big playmakers for Lamar Jackson to use in the passing game. Brown is super fast and flashes the hands and route-running necessary to become an elite receiver, so we’ll see if he can put it all together.

This week, he’ll face a Browns team that has issues in the middle of the defense, but has solid edge rushers and corners, making it seem like a matchup made for running backs and tight ends more than for outside receivers, making Brown a bit of a boom-bust prospect to start the season. We have him ranked as a low-end WR3 option, and that sounds about right. Not a great matchup for an already hot-and-cold player.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is coming off a wildly uneven rookie season, highlighted by big plays and some woefully terrible fantasy outings. However, advanced metrics show Brown may have been significantly better than the 584 yards and seven touchdowns on 46 receptions he put up last year. Sports Info Solutions shows him with only three drops and with a 92% catch rate on catchable balls. Brown will probably always be kind of a boom-bust prospect in any given week, but he’s more talented than a simple speed guy.

Fantasy Downside

The Ravens are heavily invested in the run game. Last season, they led the league in both points per game and rushing yards per game, while finishing 27th in passing yards. If the Ravens continue to play in positive game script this year and continue to lean on the extremely talented legs of quarterback Lamar Jackson, that could limit opportunities for Brown and the rest of the Baltimore receiving corps. Additionally, Brown’s slight frame and injury history make him a bit risky. He missed two games in 2019.

2020 Bottom Line

Brown is being drafted in the late-seventh round of 12-team leagues, making him a little expensive compared to the other talent available. Brown is going to put up some big numbers, but the nature of the offense he’s in makes it likely he’ll have a few more stinkers as well. He had single-digit fantasy points in eight of his 14 games last year. He has added value in best ball formats because of his playmaking ability, but he should be thought of as a high risk/reward play each week, making him a borderline WR3 option in most leagues.

BAL WR Marquise Brown - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The tight ends and running backs accounted for 84% of Lamar Jackson’s passing yards last week against the Browns and all of his three touchdowns, leaving Marquise Brown a mere one catch on two targets for six yards. Brown has put up horrendous numbers in three of his last four games and fantasy owners shouldn’t trust him heading into the season finale. He may even be limited since the Ravens have very little to play for.
