Fantasy Upside
Jahan Dotson had a solid rookie season with the Commanders as he ended up leading the team in receiving touchdowns (7) despite playing just 12 games. He especially shined down the stretch, averaging 4.2 receptions for 68.8 yards and 0.6 touchdowns in the final five games of the season. When Dotson returned from injury, he was limited in the three games back, but in the games he actually played and was involved, he was very productive. Heading into 2023, Dotson should maintain his role as the No. 2 WR in this offense.
Fantasy Downside
Dotson had a promising rookie season, but there are few notable changes heading into 2023. For starters, a new quarterback in either Sam Howell or Jacoby Brissett. Secondly, the Commanders brought in a new offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy. Both of these could end up being good things, but the uncertainty carries some risk. What we do know is Washington’s offense hasn’t finished in the top 10 in points or yards since 2016. We also know the Commanders were run-heavy last season, having the fourth-most rush attempts in the league. Dotston will also be playing second fiddle to Terry McLaurin, so it’s yet to be seen if this offense can sustain two top-level wide receivers.
2023 Bottom Line
Dotson is a bit of a sleeper option heading into 2023 because some may look at his overall numbers from his rookie season and miss the bigger picture. He missed five games and had three games where he played less snaps and was targeted just four times. Dotson also had to play with three different starting quarterbacks, which always adds in a bit of a learning curve. But Washington’s QB situation should be more stable this season, and adding Bieniemy could lead to an uptick in their production in the passing game. Dotson’s current ADP makes him a player worth targeting in redraft leagues.
