Scouting report

BUF RB James Cook - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. New England Patriots
In a Week 14 game that turned into a passing-fest, James Cook ended up handling only six carries, turning them into 20 scoreless yards. The good news: those six carries were 100% of the running back carries. The bad news: he scored 3.9 fantasy points while his team scored 42 real-life points.

He predictably turned things around last week, earning 133 total yards and two rushing touchdowns, bringing his total to 13 on the year. The Patriots rank dead last in RB aFPA, which means Cook should be considered a fantasy RB1.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 @ Detroit Lions
In a Week 14 game that turned into a passing-fest, James Cook ended up handling only six carries, turning them into 20 scoreless yards. The good news: those six carries were 100% of the running back carries. The bad news: he scored 3.9 fantasy points while his team scored 42 real-life points.

While we (probably) can't project Josh Allen to score six total touchdowns again, that performance did put Cook's bottom line into question in the Fantasy Playoffs. Regardless, Cook should still be considered an RB2, with the potential for some of those scores to go to him in this exciting Lions matchup.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 @ Los Angeles Rams
Since James Cook's mid-season toe injury, he has been crushing in fantasy, based largely on the amount of times (seven) he's seen the end zone over his last six games. It's not always a great sign when so much of a player's production comes from touchdowns, but he has 11 rush attempts from within the opponent's 10-yard-line over that span, the ninth-most among running backs, as the team continues to feed him close to the goal-line. He also has two games with six targets over the last month, which keeps him from bottoming-out if he doesn't find paydirt. Consider him a fringe RB1/2 in Week 14, with upside for more.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. San Francisco 49ers
Since James Cook's mid-season toe injury, he has been crushing in fantasy, based largely on the amount of times (five) he's seen the end zone over his last four games. It's not always a great sign when so much of a player's production comes from touchdowns, but he has nine rush attempts from within the opponent's 10-yard-line over that span, the seventh-most among running backs, as the team continues to feed him close to the goal-line. He also has two games with six targets over the last month, which keeps him from bottoming-out if he doesn't find paydirt. Consider him an RB2 in Week 13, with upside for more.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
James Cook came off the injury report in Week 7 and saw a much smaller role than we were used to, though he did find the end zone to salvage the day. We could be scared that he will continue to lose more work to Ray Davis, but the team also cruised to a 34-10 win over the Titans, so it's hard to put too much stock into that. In the following three weeks, he handled 19.3 opportunities per game, tallying 287 total yards and three touchdowns. This matchup against the Chiefs is far tougher than recent matchups, but that just means he's more of a middle-of-the-pack RB2.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 @ Indianapolis Colts
James Cook came off the injury report in Week 7 and saw a much smaller role than we were used to, though he did find the end zone to salvage the day. We could be scared that he will continue to lose more work to Ray Davis, but the team also cruised to a 34-10 win over the Titans, so it's hard to put too much stock into that. In the following two weeks, he handled 18 opportunities per game, tallying 202 total yards and two touchdowns. This matchup against the Colts is a little tougher than recent matchups, but that just means he's more of a middle-of-the-pack RB2.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Miami Dolphins
His Week 8 performance (20 opportunities, 133 total yards pushed him right back into the workload we were used to at the beginning of the year, and this matchup against the Dolphins run defense makes him an RB1 once again.
