Fantasy Upside
Coming off of a four-year, $212M extension and back-to-back seasons right on the cusp of 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns, Jared Goff is locked into one of the best offenses in the league right now. Gone are the early days of his Rams career when he was chucking the ball deep; he is now part of low-aDOT/low-mistake football that allows his pass-catchers to earn yards after the catch. The Lions have ranked top-5 in YAC since 2022, which creates a very solid fantasy floor for the QB. If Jameson Williams can grow into an explosive WR2, that floor gets closer to QB12 than QB15.
Fantasy Downside
With a very powerful running game at the Lions' disposal, Goff's "huge" weeks are few and far between. Over the last two seasons, Goff has had 3+ touchdowns on eight occasions, with only three popping up in '23. He's also as close to a "zero" in the run game as humanly possible, accruing only 21 yards on the ground over 17 games last year.
2024 Bottom Line
Jared Goff has played himself out of the stigma that he's a replacement-level NFL quarterback, but that's not entirely true in fantasy terms. Goff could lead his team to the Super Bowl in 2024 but still remain a high-to-mid QB2 for our purposes. He'll have weeks where we need him in the streaming streets, but if you have to take him as a top-12 option in your league, it's a pass.
