Scouting report

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13: Witten vs Eagles
Jason Witten scored another touchdown last Sunday giving him three scores in his last four games. He has been more relevant in the offense after struggling earlier in the season.

Witten has not scored against the Eagles the last four times they have met, but he still has been productive. Philly is 17th in aFPA to tight ends so no advantage either way, but with the way Witten has been playing, he is a solid option at a TE position that has been a wasteland outside of the top few options weekly.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12: Witten vs Giants

Jason Witten seems to be getting Tony Romo's attention over the past three games. After he went without a touchdown for the first five games, he has three now on the season. His targets have gone up slightly, but that has been enough for some better production.

The Giants ranked 31st in aFPA to tight ends so it is a great matchup for Witten. He should start in all formats as a solid TE1 for Week 12.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10: Witten vs Jaguars

Jason Witten was one of the few Cowboys whose numbers didn't dip with QB Tony Romo out. He caught a season-high six passes against Arizona and had 15 targets over the last two games. After a poor first half, Witten may be becoming a factor again in the Cowboys offense.

The Jaguars offense is 20th in aFPA to tight ends so the advantage leans towards Witten slightly. This is good week to start Witten. He seems to be more involved and that might be the case moving forward. Put him in your lineup as a solid TE1.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9: Witten vs Cardinals
Who was that in the Cowboys end zone on Monday night? It was Jason Witten for the second time in three weeks. Good news is that Cowboys tight ends have caught TD passes for three straight weeks, but the bad news is Gavin Escobar caught two in Week 7.

Witten had a season-high eight targets and 70 yards last week which is another good sign. He faces a Cardinals' defense that is very neutral against tight ends in aFPA. Witten is a borderline TE1, but probably leans more towards a backup for this week depending on your options. The touchdowns are a bit of an anomaly.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8: Witten vs Redskins
Jason Witten owners had to be cringing last week watching his backup Gavin Escobar score twice. Witten's role on the Cowboys has changed and it probably will stay that way unless the wins stop rolling in. Witten has a favorable matchup against the Redskins who are 23rd in aFPA to tight ends, but still only rates a TE2 and should probably remain on your bench.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7: Witten vs Giants
Well, Jason Witten has been consistent in 2014, but not in a good way. Tony Romo is not using Witten as he has in the past. In the past four games, he has been targeted 5 times per game. That number was much higher in recent years.

His fantasy value has taken a blow and even with a good matchup against the Giants who are 28th in aFPA to tight ends, Witten only rates a high-end TE2. Keep him on the bench unless you don't have any other options.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6: Witten vs. Seahawks
The targets for Jason Witten this season tell the story. Tony Romo has not used Witten like he has in the past. Maybe it's because of Witten slowing down or maybe it's because Romo has better options.

This week might one of the better plays for Witten. Even though Seattle's defense is one of the best in the NFL, they have not been great defending tight ends. Although there might be better options for Week 6, Witten could be a good play as a low-end TE1.
