Scouting report

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Buffalo

For the third straight game, Jason Witten caught five passes and his yardage total was in the 40s. He also has zero touchdowns during that stretch. The one thing you can say he has been very consistent, but his numbers have below his career averages. Witten is listed as questionable with a chest issue, but we expect him to play in his 202 straight game.

There is advantage either way in the matchup, as Buffalo is ranked 15th in aFPA to tight ends. As it has been most of the season, Witten should be on your bench for Week 16.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs New York Jets
It's amazing how similar Jason Witten's numbers have been every week. Not really any peaks or valleys. But overall, the numbers have been weak, at least based on Witten's standards. The Jets come in ranked third in aFPA to tight ends so that will make Witten's job even harder for Week 15. Keep him on the bench has he only rates a low-end TE2.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs Washington

Even when Tony Romo returned, Jason Witten's numbers stayed the same so we expect that to be the case with Matt Cassel at QB. He consistently ranks a TE2 this season and unless there is another mitigating factor, we don't expect that to change very much.

The Redskins are actually pretty good this season at limiting tight ends as they are ranked 4th in aFPA. That should definitely keep Witten on your bench for Week 13.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 12, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Carolina

One would think Jason Witten would immediately benefit from the return of QB Tony Romo, but the veteran tight end was only targeted three times which produced two catches for 27 yards. Still, you would have to expect to see better numbers for him the rest of the season.

Witten has a neutral matchup against the Carolina defense, who ranks 17th in aFPA to tight ends. But overall, the Panthers defense has been pretty good so until we see some better numbers for Witten, we are going to keep him on the bench albeit a high-end TE2.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Miami

A five-catch, 42-yard afternoon has been the norm for Jason Witten this season. He has definitely missed QB Tony Romo and has not been considered a fantasy starter for certain games.

Romo is due back this week from IR, and if that happens, it definitely upgrades Witten's status. Dallas faces Miami, who is 19th in aFPA to tight ends, so there is no real advantage there for Witten. We still think the Cowboys tight end has enough in the tank and with Romo coming back, it pushes him back to a low-end TE1 for Week 11.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Tampa Bay
Jason Witten's numbers have been pretty consistent this season, but not as good as past years. With QB Tony Romo out, that has pretty much been one of the reasons. He had six catches for 43 yards, but was held out of the end zone again. The Cowboys face the Bucs who are 14th in aFPA, so there is no advantage either way, but Witten should probably remain on the bench as a high-end TE2 for Week 10 as there are better options available.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs Philadelphia
It's not often Jason Witten falls out of the top-10 in fantasy tight end rankings, but when you have just four targets and two catches for 14 yards, there is a red flag. That flag is Matt Cassel. The QB has struggled and will continue to do so which brings down Witten and every other Cowboy skill player's value down. The matchup isn't good this week as Philly is No.1 in aFPA to tight ends. It's hard to believe, but Witten rates a high-end TE2. Keep him on the bench for Week 9.
