Scouting report

DAL TE Jason Witten - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jason Witten is still one of Tony Romo's favorite targets and the best word to describe him is reliable. He has only missed two starts since his rookie season and has also been a consistent third down target for the Cowboys.

Fantasy Downside
Although Witten can still play, his numbers have started to slip. He had his lowest reception total since 2006 and he really has not been great in the red zone (averaging just five scores per season over the past four years.)

Bottom Line
Witten once put together a six-year run of 940-plus yard receiving seasons, but those days are gone. While his reception and yardage totals have dipped over the past two seasons, that does not mean he doesn't have value. He still is a top 10 fantasy tight end, but his ADP of 93 might be a little early just because a lot of owners draft him based on reputation. If you can get Witten in the 9th or 10th round as your TE1, he should be able to return value.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19: Witten vs Packers

Jason Witten had some key catches in the Cowboys Wild Card weekend victory. He finished the day with five catches, seven targets and 63 yards. Witten has been in the sight line of QB Tony Romo a lot more over the second half of the season.

The Packers are 10th in aFPA to tight ends and despite the success of the Cowboys on the road, it's never easy to play in Lambeau in January. Witten probably still rates one of the better tight ends playing this weekend, but that's not saying much with only eight teams playing. Don't expect great numbers from the Cowboys tight end. If he can get you what he go last week, that will be a win.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 18: Witten vs Lions
Jason Witten is actually one of the better tight end plays for Wild Card weekend. The veteran continues to put up consistent numbers and is in the Cowboys game plan. Start him this week against the Lions who are 18th in aFPA to tight ends. Witten is a solid starter for Week 18.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17: Witten vs Redskins
Jason Witten continues to have a strong second half. He had seven catches for 90 yards and a touchdown last week and put up similar numbers the first time the Cowboys played Washington. The Redskins are 31st in aFPA to tight ends so expect another big game from Witten. Start him in all leagues as a solid TE1.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16: Witten vs Colts

Jason Witten has been a much better TE option the second half of the season. He had a season-high 9 targets last week and caught a season-high seven catches. He really has become the second option in the passing game lately after Dez Bryant.

Witten will face the Colts who are 24th in aFPA to tight ends and is a start as a low-end TE1 for Week 16.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15: Witten vs Eagles
Jason Witten only has five targets over the past two games and only had one catch against Philadelphia the last time they played. Even with the Eagles 8th in aFPA to tight ends, Witten should be a nice safety blanket for QB Tony Romo on the road this week. Philly will change up some things from two weeks ago and Witten could be part of those plans. Start him as a low-end TE1 for Week 15.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14: Witten vs Bears

After several effective weeks for the veteran tight end, Jason Witten was held to one catch on Thanksgiving. QB Tony Romo only targeted him twice which was the lowest amount since Week 7.

The Cowboys play Chicago is who is dead last in aFPA to tight ends, so this is a great matchup for Witten who should bounce back nicely if Romo is back on his game. Start Witten as a solid TE1 for Week 14.
