CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Dallas Cowboys
Five turnovers isn't what you expected from Joe Burrow when you drafted him. Besides that, his numbers were respectable with 358 passing yards and two touchdown passes. The bad news, besides the turnovers, was that it took 53 pass attempts to get those numbers. Burrow looked confused at times during the game which is surprising considering what he accomplished last season. Chalk it up to an off day.

Burrow will face the Cowboys who played very well on defense last Sunday against Tampa Bay holding them to one touchdown. The Dallas defense has a strong secondary and Micah Parsons will give any QB trouble. It will be interesting to see how the new offensive line for the Bengals holds up after giving up 7 sacks last week.

Start Burrow as a low-end QB1 for Week 2. We weren't expecting to say that this early, but there are some concerns with his performance and that line.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 1 will tell a lot about where Joe Burrow is headed. If the investment in the offensive line pays off - and the Pittsburgh pass rush is a good test - he could end being the best fantasy quarterback this season. He has the offensive weapons and has already given us a glimpse of how good he can be.

The Steelers defense was ranked 10th in aFPA to quarterbacks but Burrow didn't reach the 200-yard passing mark in either game last season. However, there are still question marks in the Pittsburgh secondary.

Burrow is definitely worthy of a start on Sunday but probably won't be one of the top fantasy quarterbacks for Week 1. Expect him to throw for 280 yards and a couple touchdowns, but this is a division game and don't expect the Steelers not to be in this game.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Joe Burrow is way ahead of schedule on his way to becoming one of the top quarterbacks in the league. That is impressive considering he blew out his knee during his rookie season. Last season, there were plenty of reasons to be pessimistic about Burrow, but he might have been the second best quarterback in the AFC over the second half, and led his team to the Super Bowl in his second year. The fantasy stats are very good as he threw for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns. The skill players around him might be the best group in the NFL. He should be able to replicate those passing numbers this season.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Despite the impressive second season for Burrow, there are some red flags. He played behind an average offensive line and the new additions aren't guaranteed to provide a big upgrade for the upcoming season. He also threw 14 interceptions which ranked him 6th in the NFL. From a fantasy standpoint, Burrow doesn't run the ball much so that probably brings him down to the middle tier of fantasy quarterbacks.

2022 Bottom Line
Burrow has proven to be a winner and a franchise quarterback for Cincy. His passing numbers are on par with the top fantasy quarterbacks in the league. Expect him to replicate or surpass those numbers. He won't ever be a threat on the ground which makes him a middle of the pack QB1 and his ADP is about right to draft him in the 5th or 6th round. As long as he stays healthy, he will be a fantasy asset in 2022.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Kansas City
Joe Burrow made and broke a lot of fantasy seasons last week with this 525-yard passing performance that included four touchdown passes. It was the third 300+ passing yard performance in the last four games. However, it was only the second time he has thrown multiple touchdown passes in a game over the last seven.

Burrow will have a tougher time with Kansas City who is ranked 8th in aFPA to quarterbacks. It seems more like Burrow just likes playing against a depleted Ravens defense as he threw for 416 the last time they played.

Start Burrow for Week 17 but as a low-end QB1. Last week was more of a shock than anything and we don't think he will get even close to those numbers again.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Baltimore
After back-to-back 300+ yard passing games, Joe Burrow was limited last week against Denver. The Bengals still won but only scored 15 points. Burrow threw for 157 yards and only one touchdown. In his past six games, he has thrown only six touchdown passes.

The Bengals face the Ravens who are ranked 27th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Cincy demolished Baltimore in the first meeting back in Week 7 with Burrow throwing for 416 yards and three touchdown passes. That game took place when the Bengals offense was running on all cylinders but a lot has changed since then.

Burrow is a borderline QB1 for Week 16. This game is for first place in the AFC North and we expect a classic division battle. Don't expect a repeat of the blowout the first time around.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Denver
The Bengals lost last week but Joe Burrow's fantasy numbers were still strong. He completed 73.5% of his passes and threw for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was an improvement over the past month as he has now thrown 300+ passing yards in back-to-back games. That was also his first multi-touchdown pass game since Week 9.

Burrow faces a Broncos team on the road that is ranked 15th in aFPA to quarterbacks. It's probably safe to say that Burrow is having a slight sophomore slump, especially with some of the expectations coming into the season. His numbers haven't been awful, but not good enough to be a consistent fantasy starting quarterback.

Keep Burrow on the bench for Week 15. The lack of touchdown passes over the past month has been worrisome for his owners even if the passing yards seem to have gone back up over the last two weeks.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. San Francisco
Joe Burrow has now struggled for four straight games and what seemed like a definite QB1 this season, he has fallen off. Burrow has thrown only three touchdowns and five picks over the last four games. He did throw for 300 yards last week in the loss to LA. Burrow is also nursing a bad finger and knee, but the Bengals want to run the ball more than pass and that has hurt Burrow's overall numbers.

The Niners come to Cincy ranked 16th in aFPA to quarterbacks. It's hard to prop up Burrow even with a neutral matchup. The results just haven't been there and he isn't healthy.

Keep Burrow on the bench for Week 14 and wait to see if he can return to the numbers he had the first half of the season.
