Scouting report

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
Joe Burrow had his lowest passing numbers last Sunday but it produced a win so that formula is fine with Cincinnati, He attempted only 18 passes which produced 172 yards. However, he did throw three touchdown passes so it was still a decent fantasy outing.

Burrow faces the Jaguars on Thursday night who are ranked 14th in aFPA to quarterbacks. The Bengals hope to see a similar scenario with their defense forcing turnovers and giving them field position while the running game drives the offense.

Keep Burrow on the bench for Week 4. After three weeks of totally different types of performances, he is what we thought he was so far. A solid QB2 who gives you depth for your team.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Pittsburgh
Joe Burrow's numbers were solid in Week 1 but three interceptions marred last week's performance. So far, he has thrown four touchdown passes while averaging 234 passing yards. He has looked solid for the most part and seems to be recovered from the knee surgery.

Burrow will face the Steelers for the second time in his career. Last season, he threw for 231 yards and a touchdown but only completed 53% of his passes. The good news is the Steelers' defense is banged up and was lit up last week by Las Vegas.

Keep Burrow on the bench against Pittsburgh. Even though some things favor the Bengals, Cincy has struggled with the Steelers' defense on the road and Pittsburgh will get some starters back that were missing last week.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Chicago
Joe Burrow is off to a good start helping the Bengals getting a home while completing 74% of his passes for 261 yards and two touchdown passes. He looked comfortable on the refurbished knee and should get even more confident as the season goes on. He only threw the ball 27 times which is good news for the balance of the Cincy offense, but not be good for Burrow's owners.

The Bears are up next as the Bengals hit the road. They had trouble stopping the Rams offense last week, but still were ranked 12th in aFPA to quarterbacks after one week. Chicago's defense should be better at Soldier Field which will make Burrow's afternoon tougher.

Keep Burrow on the bench for Week 2 as a QB2. He eventually could move up to a starting role for certain matchups but the fact the Bengals were balanced with the running and passing game hurts his fantasy value.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Minnesota

Joe Burrow returns from his ACL injury and all reports are he is good to go. He looked good last season until the injury and the Bengals didn't hold him back as they had the second-most pass attempts in the league while he was a starter.

There will be many who are cautious because QBs coming back from this type of injury usually struggle with their accuracy early on. Most people drafted Burrow as a QB2. He is considered a good backup with a high ceiling. For Week 1, he will face the Vikings who were 10th in aFPA to quarterbacks last season. It's a decent matchup for the Bengals passing game, but keep Burrow on the bench Sunday and let's get a good feel for where he is at with his comeback.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
It looked promising until Joe Burrow went down with an ACL injury in Week 10. The numbers weren't earth-shattering but definitely showed the rookie could play in this league. When he was the starter, the Bengals had the second-most pass attempts per game. Cincinnati didn't hesitate in the off-season to get him more help by drafting his former LSU teammate wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase who some consider the best wide receiver in the draft. Add the already existing offensive skill players and Burrow should have plenty of options to create very good fantasy numbers.

Fantasy Downside
Quarterbacks coming from an ACL injury sometimes excel and sometimes they fall flat and there is really no map to say what is going to happen to Burrow. Even if the Bengals give him plenty of opportunities to put up positive fantasy numbers, there are still issues surrounding Burrow when he was the No. 1 pick in the draft in 2020 including he had one great season in college and was surrounded by multiple top draft picks. Add the injury to those factors and it does show why there is the risk with Burrow.

Bottom Line
If you get Burrow as your No. 2 quarterback, you scored a coup. Drafting him as a No. 1 quarterback has plenty of risk. His ADP has him going somewhere between the eighth and 10th round. All reports are Burrow has worked diligently to get healthy, but sometimes it is hard for players to get back where they were. If he is your No. 1 QB, it is a high-risk, high reward selection. But remember six of his games come against the AFC North and all of those teams have top-tier defenses.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Washington
Joe Burrow was introduced to the Steelers rivalry rather rudely. He completed a season-low 53% of his passes and although he threw for 213 and zero picks, the pressure definitely made him uncomfortable. and he did nothing offensively in the second half. He will get another shot at them later in the season.

Burrow will face Washington who is 17th in aFPA to quarterbacks. He has been good for the most part this season, so we expect a bounce-back game against an average defense.

Keep Burrow on the bench for Week 11 as he ranks a high-end QB2. He should put up pretty good numbers but not enough to crack your lineup.

CIN QB Joe Burrow - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Pittsburgh
Joe Burrow has been on fire the last two weeks, completing 73% of his passes for 655 yards and five touchdown passes. The Bengals have given Burrow the keys to the offense and haven't held anything back. The offensive line has been good enough and he definitely has weapons around him. He will get starting running back Joe Mixon back this week from injury.

Burrow will face division rival Pittsburgh for the first time. The Steelers are ranked seventh in aFPA to quarterbacks. It won't be easy for Burrow as Pittsburgh is known for beating up on quarterbacks that face them for the first time.

As hot as Burrow has been, it's time for him to cool off a little. He ranks a QB2 for Week 10 so keep him on the bench against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
