Scouting report

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Dallas Cowboys

Josh Jacobs had nine carries and five receptions for a total of 61 yards from scrimmage in a blowout loss to the Bengals. Jacobs has 12 targets over his last two games and needs only five more receptions to tie his career-high 33 from last year. It’s a good sign for fantasy managers looking for Jacobs to evolve as an option, as receptions can help catapult a fringe RB1 into elite territory. That being said, this offense and team look like it’s currently a mess.

This week, Jacobs faces a Cowboys defense that ranks 11th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Jacobs has a nice floor due to his workload – especially if he keeps catching passes – so he’s worth starting. We have him ranked as an RB2 and he should provide some safe points for fantasy managers.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Josh Jacobs was held to just 16 yards on seven carries last week against the Chiefs, although he did catch five passes. The Raiders got down early and had to abandon the run game, so I wouldn’t expect such few carries regularly.

This week, Jacobs faces a Bengals defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing running backs. It should be a more competitive game, so expect Jacobs to back to his normal 11.4 carries with a good chance at scoring his sixth touchdown of the season. Start him as a RB2.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Josh Jacobs had 13 carries and four receptions for 95 yards last week against the Giants. Jacobs didn’t find the end zone for only the second time this season, but his 17 total touches are good to see. When healthy, he’s a workhorse for the Raiders and provides a nice floor based on his touches. Jacobs has double-digit fantasy points in all but one of his starts this season.

This week, Jacobs faces a Chiefs defense that ranks 13th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Jacobs’ workload should keep him firmly in RB2 territory and he’s a high-floor starter in all formats.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Giants

Josh Jacobs had six carries for 29 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles before the bye last week. He also added three catches for 39 yards, but then left the game with an injury.

This week, Jacobs faces a Giants defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing running backs. The Raiders could be ahead in game script, which should lead to a good game for Jacobs. We have him ranked as a low-end RB2 option in all leagues. Start him.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Josh Jacobs had only 53 yards last week on the ground, but he added a 29-yard reception and a rushing touchdown to his totals. He also carried the ball 16 times, showing the safety of his role as the primary back in this offense.

This week, Jacobs should do well in a nice matchup against the Eagles. Philadelphia’s defense ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing running backs and has struggled to stop opposing offenses all season. As such, the Raiders should be able to build a lead, keeping Jacobs churning. Start him as a fringe RB1 in all leagues this week.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Denver Broncos

Josh Jacobs only had 48 yards on 15 carries last week against the Bears, but he found the end zone for the third time this season and also had five targets for the second consecutive week. Jacobs’ activity in the passing game is super encouraging for fantasy managers who had written off his potential in the passing game. Watch this development closely, as it would round out the value of a player already seeing double-digit carries each game.

Jacobs has a tough matchup this week against a Broncos defense that ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing running backs, although they did just give up 100-plus yards to rookie Najee Harris. Jacobs’ workload gives him a nice fantasy floor each week though, regardless of matchup, making him a solid RB2 option in all formats.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Chicago Bears

Josh Jacobs was a surprise active last week after missing two games with injury. He wasn’t super productive, however, against a tough Chargers defense. He finished with just 57 yards from scrimmage, although he did have 13 carries and a shocking five receptions. Jacobs hasn’t been known for his receiving prowess, but he was the only Raiders running back to receive any targets last week.

This week, Jacobs faces a tough Bears defense that ranks eighth in aFPA to opposing running backs. Watch his activity in the passing game – and his ongoing health – but consider him a fringe RB2 option in a difficult matchup. If he keeps getting targets and can stay healthy, he’ll catapult up the rankings.
