Fantasy Upside
Justin Forsett should be the favorite to enter the 2016 season as the primary runner in Baltimore. He averaged 15.1 carries and 3.1 catches per game before a broken arm ended his season last year, and the Ravens upgraded their offensive line in the draft with first-round pick Ronnie Stanley out of Notre Dame set to start at left tackle. Forsett is a versatile player who had 14.7 carries and 2.8 receptions per game in 2014, and will be given every opportunity to keep his job as the main back this season.
Fantasy Downside
Forsett regressed a bit on a per game basis last season, finishing with 641 yards on the ground and only two touchdowns before missing the final six games. That’s concerning because he’ll turn 31 in October, an age when running backs are typically in a steady decline. Additionally, he’ll have more competition this season. Sophomore Javorius Allen had an uneven rookie year, but was the third-most targeted player for the Ravens last year. And Baltimore drafted Kenneth Dixon out of Louisiana Tech in the fourth round of this year's draft. Even holdover Terrance West has looked good in camp. Forsett will need to show he’s healthy and back to his 2015 form if he’s going to hold on to the starting job.
2016 Bottom Line
As the likely starter, Forsett has some value as the third running back on your roster, especially in the 10th round, where his ADP is. It would be easier to count on him if there were only one other player challenging him for touches, but with Allen, Dixon, and maybe even Terrance West in play for work, it’s hard to back up Forsett with a reliable handcuff. Fantasy owners should consider Forsett a nice backup option with upside, but not a guy to rely on in most leagues.
Update:
Forsett didn't make the final 53-man roster, so fantasy owners still drafting should avoid him at this time. It's possible he catches on elsewhere, so he may be worth a last-round flyer, but things aren't looking good for the 31-year-old.
