Scouting report

by Justin Edwards

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 @ Green Bay Packers
After earning one (or fewer) targets in three out of the first four games, Kalif Raymond has found the end zone in the last two games, with a 73-yard performance back in Week 6. The performances still feel a little fluky though, and he should be considered a deep-league desperation Flex in Week 9.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at New York Giants

Kalif Raymond is at least seeing the field, as he led all skill players in snaps last week against the Bears. But he only saw three targets again and has quieted a bit since those back-to-back weeks of 75 and 76 yards. He also has zero touchdowns this season. Tough to trust him in a fantasy lineup.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Chicago Bears

After two solid performances, Kalif Raymond went quiet against the Packers, garnering just 17 yards. He should remain the Lions' WR2 for the time being as Josh Reynolds may still be out. The Bears are a weak passing defense, but Raymond is down in the pecking order. He's a deep play only.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Green Bay Packers

Two straight weeks of at least 75 receiving yards for Kalif Raymond, as he mixes with Josh Reynolds opposite Amon-Ra St. Brown in the absence of DJ Chark. Targets may also open up a little bit with the Lions having traded T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings, so there's upside for Raymond in deeper formats with so many other teams on bye.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Steelers

Kalif Raymond was held off the scoresheet in Week 8 following a breakout game against the Rams where he caught 6-of-8 targets for 115 yards. He takes on a Steelers defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing wideouts, making this an exploitable matchup. I prefer Raymond over Amon-Ra St. Brown, as Raymond (11.1 aDOT) has more valuable targets than St. Brown (7.9 aDOT). St. Brown depends on more volume for fantasy production.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Eagles

Kalif Raymond emerged as the top target against the Rams, catching 6-of-8 targets for 115 yards. This was while rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown was held catch-less. That bodes well for Raymond's chances at continuing to produce as the top wideout on this Lions team. We all know how thin this wide receiver room is, so this is totally within the realm of possibility.

Raymond has a tough matchup against an Eagles defense that ranks 3rd in aFPA to wide receivers, so it's best to avoid him if you were considering him in deeper leagues or DFS tournaments. It's likely that the Lions will go run-heavy against this run-funnel Eagles defense. Most of the targets figure to be funneled towards tight end T.J. Hockenson.

DET WR Kalif Raymond - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Packers
Raymond surprisingly led the way for this Lions wideouts, catching 3-of-4 targets for 50 yards. Raymond led the team with a 75% snap rate, so it appears that he's the most reliable wide receiver out of this group, which isn't really saying much. The target distribution is likely to be funneled among T.J. Hockenson, D'Andre Swift, and Jamaal Williams this season. It'll be tough to determine which Lions wideout will make an impact on a given week.

Raymond will have to go up against a Packers defense that ranked 2nd in aFPA to wide receivers last season. Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander is one of the best in the NFL, so this is a tough matchup here. The only thing Raymond has going for him in this matchup is that the Lions will likely be pass-heavy once again. We can safely leave Raymond on the waiver wire for now, but keep an eye out on his usage.
