Scouting report

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at San Francisco

Once again right behind Darrell Henderson in snaps, Brown finished last week with eight carries for 30 yards and caught one pass for negative yardage. Brown has been full regulated to backup duty and the return of Cam Akers might solidify his backup role if Akers gets on a role soon. For now, Brown strictly makes a desperation flex play.

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Washington

Brown finished last week with nine carries for 38 yards and caught five receptions for 19 yards. It was a strange game for the Rams backfield, as Brown out-touched Darrell Henderson for the first time since Week 1 when Brown had seemingly lost his starting job. With Cam Akers entering the fold this week, it is difficult to project Brown anything more than an RB3 against Washington

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Buffalo

And just like that, Week 1’s hottest waiver add has once against been regulated to a backup role, maybe. Brown finished Week 2 with 11 carries for 47 yards but was limited due to a finger injury. Even though Cam Akers might miss some time, it is second-year RB Darrell Henderson who went over 100 yards from scrimmage one a touchdown last week. With Brown dealing with an injury and Henderson performing well, we’d keep Brown as RB3 against Buffalo.

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Philadelphia

Another Week 1, another two-touchdown performance for Brown who operated as the lead back in a clear RBBC. Even though he split with time Cam Akers, Brown received workhorse touches as he finished the game with 18 carries for 79 yards and touchdowns in the running game, but also four targets which he converted into three catches for 41 yards. Even though Brown was the best back the Rams had, it’s evident they want to get Akers involved, which makes it difficult to give Brown anything more than an RB2 projection. The Eagles bottled up the Washington run game last week, however, they did give up two short-yardage touchdowns to Peyton Barber. We like Brown as an upside FLEX play this week with low-end RB2 potential.

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Arizona Cardinals
If sane coaching decisions prevail and Todd Gurley is rested in a meaningless Week 17 matchup, Malcolm Brown could benefit. While Brown had only two games with double-digit rushing attempts, he did finish as an RB1 in Week 1 against the 49ers, with 53 yards on 11 touches. With rookie running back Darrell Henderson on IR, Brown won't have to share the potential workload, though the Rams could promote John Kelly from the practice squad.

The Rams face a Cardinals defense that's giving up the third-most aFPA to running backs, and Vegas is giving this matchup the highest implied point total on the slate at 49 points. The Rams are projected to be responsible for 28 of those points, and if Brown's Week 1 usage is any indicator, he should see plenty of red zone touches. At $4,100 on DraftKings and $4,900 on FanDuel, Brown's matchup makes him an interesting DFS target in Week 17.

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Dallas Cowboys
Excluding the Rams' Week 12 blowout loss to the Ravens, Malcolm Brown is averaging 19 yards on five attempts per game with zero targets. Brown had one carry on the Rams' first drive in Week 14, and though it was a red zone carry at the Seahawks one-yard line and resulted in a touchdown, he didn't touch the ball again until the 4th quarter with the Rams leading 28-9. Betting on more than four or five fantasy points from Brown in Week 15 is pure folly.

LAR RB Malcolm Brown - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Arizona Cardinals
Malcolm Brown saw just two snaps on offense in Week 12, and with Todd Gurley healthy and available, Brown is best left on the waiver wire.
