The Cardinals signed TE Richard Rodgers to the practice squad for what it's worth. Williams' season is done unfortunately.

The Cardinals signed TE Richard Rodgers to their practice squad.

Rodgers spent the bulk of his career with the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him in the third round in 2014.

Now with the Cardinals, Rodgers could be moved to the active roster but would have to leap-frog current tight ends Demetrius Harris and Darrell Daniels to earn playing time.

Fantasy Impact: 

No update was given on Williams the story said, but reports say he will likely miss time with a serious knee injury, perhaps the rest of the season. Williams was starting to emerge at the position, but Rodgers doesn't bring a lot of fantasy excitement as a potential replacement. However Rodgers did catch 85 passes with the Packers in 2015, a career high. The team could still look outside the organization for another option, as we reported in an earlier news item.

As it stands Tuesday, the Cardinals have tight end Demetrius Harris on the active roster, Darrell Daniels on the COVID-19 list and Ross Travis and Bernhard Seikovits (International Player Pathway) on the practice squad.

Of the three currently not on the COVID-19 list, only Harris has the most live NFL action this season. After being used as mostly a special teamer, Harris saw a season-high 52% of offensive snaps (32) in Week 5.

The 30-year-old has 106 games and 45 starts of NFL experience in his career.

Fantasy Impact: 

The in-house options aren't overly great for Cards, at least on paper. The author speculated about some options outside the organization who could be available. Names included O.J. Howard, Mo Alie-Cox, Hayden Hurst and Jimmy Graham. It remains to be seen what they do, but Williams was starting to emerge as a legit threat in the passing game at the TE position.

Cardinals TE Maxx Williams is feared to have suffered a major, season-ending knee injury on Sunday, source said.

Fantasy Impact: 

Williams, who has emerged as an important target for QB Kyler Murray, took a hard shot to his right knee and was quickly ruled out this week. It was ugly to watch as Williams took the hit after planting his right leg in the turf on a 14-yard catch. Daniels and Harris are next up on the depth chart.
