CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Green Bay Packers

Mitch Trubisky enters 2018 with a much-improved receiving corps around him. The Bears arguably had the worst group of wideouts last season, so the additions of Allen Robinson, Trey Burton, Anthony Miller and Taylor Gabriel should really help as Trubisky takes his next step forward.

He draws what should be a favorable matchup against the Packers in Week 1. He had one of his better games last season against Green Bay, finishing with 297 passing yards and a touchdown.

There are many better options at QB this week, but Trubisky certainly isn't a bad one. If you have someone like Carson Wentz that you're waiting on, Trubisky can be a decent streaming option this week.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Mitch Trubisky now has 12 games and a full offseason under his belt as he prepares for his second season. The talent around him gets much better in 2018 as the Bears signed several offensive playmakers including WR Allen Robinson, WR Taylor Gabriel, TE Trey Burton, and drafted WR Anthony Miller in the second round.

In addition to more playmakers, the Bears also brought in former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as Trubisky’s new head coach and playcaller. With improvements all around him, it’s hard to not get a little excited about what Trubisky can do in his second season.

Fantasy Downside

Trubisky didn’t do a whole lot to wow us a rookie. He had seven passing touchdowns in 12 games (he did add two scores on the ground) and finished with 10 turnovers. He also had just three games above 200 passing yards and no games with more than one passing touchdown.

And while all of the change around him looks good on paper, it may take Trubisky a while to get used to a new system and his new teammates. Aside from the running backs, this is essentially a brand new roster all around the second-year QB.

2018 Bottom Line

While he didn’t do much as a rookie, there’s a lot to like about Trubisky heading into 2018. Last season he was playing with arguably the worst WR corps in the league, so there was really only so much he could do. With better talent and better playcalling, Trubisky can make tremendous strides as a second-year player.

He still carries some risk since we haven’t seen him in action yet, but Trubisky is a solid late-round pick as a middle-of-the-pack quarterback.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Minnesota Vikings

Mitch Trubisky had his eighth (out of 11) game with under 200 yards passing last week, and finished without a passing touchdown. He did run for a score, but rushing TDs from a QB aren't usually sustainable. Trubisky now has just 7 passing touchdowns in his 11 starts, including four games with no scores.

This makes him a bad option to begin with, and to make matters worse, he gets a very tough Vikings defense this week. He struggled against Minnesota earlier in the year, completing less than half of his passes for under 200 yards with one TD and a couple of turnovers. He's not worth starting this week.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Cleveland Browns

Mitch Trubisky had a career-high 314 passing yards last week, but he finished with just 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. He still hasn't had more than one passing touchdown in a game this season, although he is starting to throw the ball more as he had a career-high 46 pass attempts last week.

He could have a solid game this week in a great matchup against the Browns. Cleveland has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs, so maybe Trubisky can have some success. Still, considering Trubisky's past production at this point, it'd be very hard to trust him, especially at this point in the season. He's only a QB2 option.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Detroit Lions

Mitch Trubisky had another poor fantasy effort last week, although he did have his second-highest yardage total after throwing for 271. It was only his second 200+ yard passing game of the season. He still hasn't had a multi-touchdown game.

He gets a favorable matchup this week against the Lions, but he's been a very poor option in fantasy all season long. There's no reason to start a QB who hasn't had multiple touchdowns in any game this season.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cincinnati Bengals

Mitch Trubisky had a great matchup last week but barely managed to get 100 passing yards as he finished with just 15 pass attempts. He did score a touchdown, but he's done nothing this season to prove he's worth fantasy consideration. He's had no multiple-touchdown games, and has only eclipsed 200 yards passing once in his eight starts.

He gets a decent matchup this week against the Bengals, but as we said, there's really no reason to like him in fantasy. He's among one of the worst options at the QB position this week.

CHI QB Mitch Trubisky - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. San Francisco 49ers

As expected, Mitch Trubisky struggled last week against the Eagles. He had just 147 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Through seven career starts now, Trubisky has just 4 touchdowns, which is awful for a fantasy quarterback.

He has a chance to improve this week, however, as he gets a great matchup against the 49ers. San Francisco is allowing the most fantasy points to opposing QBs this season, including six straight games of multiple touchdowns.

But we haven't seen much from Trubisky since he's taken over, which makes him a very risky option in fantasy. Sure it's a great matchup, but Trubisky is a dangerous play and should be avoided in most redraft leagues.
