Fantasy Upside
The Cardinals went with a veteran presence at kicker, signing former 49er Phil Dawson. The addition fills a void since the Cardinals didn't tender their kicker of the last three years, Chandler Catanzaro, allowing him to move on as free agent. As ESPN.com notes, there were a slew of younger kickers on the market this year, but Dawson has been consistent as an 84.5 percent career kicker, including missing just three attempts in each of the last two seasons. He's also made his share of big kicks in clutch situations which is just what the Cardinals believe they need this season after Catanzaro contributed to three losses in 2016 with missed kicks.
Fantasy Downside
Of course, Dawson's 42-year-old leg is the biggest risk here. Dawson averaged 56.2 yards per kickoff, according to ESPN Stats & Information, and just four of his 41 kicks went for touchbacks.
2017 Bottom Line
Still, the Cardinals aren't the type of team to keep two kickers -- one for field goals and one for extra points -- but for now, Dawson is their guy. And playing alongside an offense capable of scoring at Arizona's pace won't hurt him from being a viable bye-week fill-in or cheap DFS option on any given Sunday.
