Scouting report

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at New England Patriots

Quentin Johnston is just inside the top 50 wide receivers this week, but given the drops, usage, and role, I can't see starting him in a championship game (or semi-final if you're a real sicko). There just has to be a better option out there than the third option in a low-volume passing game which is a touchdown-or-bust option. Add in that he'll likely be seeing some Christian Gonzalez and ranking 8th in aFPA against receivers and it's not the best spot for Johnston.

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Denver Broncos

In a string twist of fate, Quentin Johnston actually led the Chargers in targets against the Buccaneers with 10. He tied Ladd McConkey and Stone Smartt with catches (5), but had the fewest yards of the trio with 45 yards. He also added a touchdown, but the usage was much better this week.

Johnston goes up against a Denver secondary that was much more formidable earlier in the season and now sit at 23rd aFPA against wide receivers. While the matchup isn't to be avoided, it's likely Johnston will see more Pat Surtain as he looks to return this week. Johnston is a desperation flex play this week.

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Without Ladd McConkey last week, Quentin Johnston was used on shorter throws and thrived with 5 catches for 48 yards and a touchdown on 7 targets. When Johnston is used on deeper 50/50 balls, he continues to struggle, but when he gets involved closer to the line of scrimmage he can use his YAC ability to really thrive.

The Buccaneers are 31st aFPA against wide receivers so in theory, this should be a solid matchup for Johnston, but with McConkey possibly returning it is tougher to feel confident. That said, he's a flex option if you need him. You could certainly do worse, especially in DFS.

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Atlanta Falcons

5 targets for 0 catches in Week 12 for Quentin Johnston is not at all what anyone wants to see for fantasy. It was a brutal showing for Johnston after some solid outings earlier in the season that might have been turning his career around. Instead, it was a myriad of drops.

Thankfully for Johnston, the Falcons are 32nd aFPA against wide receivers this season. It's a great matchup, but as long as he continues to just be a deep threat on jump balls, it's going to be rough sledding every week he doesn't score a touchdown. Johnston is back-end flex option and should only be considered if you're desperate.

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The reality of Quentin Johnston is that he's the most likely Chargers receiver to score a touchdown and the coaches have done a great job of getting him in position to win after the catch. He may not be the dominant #1 receiver the Chargers hoped for, but he's very good in the role he has now.

The Bengals are 27th aFPA against receivers, so this is a great spot in theory for Johnston. He's more of a flex play this week, but the matchup is tough to beat. Especially on a bye week like this, you could do a lot worse.

LAC WR Quentin Johnston - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Tennessee Titans

The big plays continue to come every week for Quentin Johnston with one of the biggest turnarounds from Year 1 to Year 2 in recent memory. As a deep threat, he's never going to project great on just a few targets, but as he proved again last week on 5 targets he had 4 catches for 118 yards and a touchdown.

The Titans are 3rd aFPA against wide receivers this year so the ceiling is a little bit lower this week, but the big plays can still be had for Johnston. He's more of a flex option this week if you have a normal starter on bye, but you'll be hoping for a long touchdown.
