Scouting report

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Washington Football Team

Raheem Mostert had nine carries and a reception for 43 yards last week in a loss to the Bills. Mostert is usually very productive when active, so it was surprising to see him with just 10 total touches on the day. Expect him to improve on that, and with his 5.1 yards per carry average this season, he’s a home-run threat in any outing.

It’s a tough matchup this week for Mostert. He’ll face a Washington defense that ranks sixth in aFPA to opposing running backs. Mostert should be downgraded because of a tough defense, but still has big-play ability and the potential to go off in any matchup. As such, we have him as a fringe RB2 option with upside.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Buffalo Bills

Raheem Mostert returned to action last week, and while he was held by the Rams to just 2.7 yards per carry, he found the end zone for the third time in just five games this season. He also had 18 total touches, including a pair of receptions. When Mostert is healthy, this job appears to be his.

The Bills rank 19th in aFPA to opposing running backs this season, so it’s a pretty good matchup for Mostert. He’s a must-start in any game where he’s healthy, given his usage while active. We have him ranked as a fringe-RB1 option in a nice matchup, and he should be active in all leagues.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Los Angeles Rams

Raheem Mostert has only played four games this season, but when he’s played, he’s been effective. He has 453 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 62 touches – including 11 receptions – in his limited action, making him a legit RB1 if he’s healthy. For the first time since mid-October, he looks like he might see the field.

Mostert returns to face a Rams defense that ranks sixth in aFPA to opposing running backs. That’s not a great matchup, but he had 76 yards against this same defense the last time he was active. Check the injury report for updates, but as long as he’s starting, he should be active in all leagues.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Raheem Mostert has missed two games this year, but he’s been remarkably efficient when active. He’s averaging 7.0 yards on 34 carries in three games of action. He had 90 yards on 11 carries plus 29 yards on three receptions last week against the Dolphins, and that was with the 49ers spending most of the game in negative script after Miami jumped out to a big early lead.

This week, Mostert faces a Rams defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing running backs, although the defense looked fierce against the Washington Football Team last week. Regardless of matchup though, Mostert is enough of a playmaker that he should be active in all leagues where he’s likely to get double-digit touches. We have him as a fringe RB1 this week.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Miami Dolphins

Raheem Mostert is a big play waiting to happen. Despite playing in just two games this season, he has two touchdowns of over 70 yards. He may still be inactive, but he’s started practicing again, making the situation worth monitoring. If Mostert is active, he has a nice matchup against the Dolphins, who have been pretty good against the pass this year but rank 23rd in aFPA to opposing running backs. Watch his status, but on the chance he’s active, he might be worth gambling on.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New York Jets

Raheem Mostert was held to 56 rushing yards on 15 carries last week against the Cardinals, but he added 95 yards and a touchdown on four receptions, including a huge 76-yard catch-and-run score. While the big play certainly skews the numbers for him, it was good to see him get 19 touches, and 65% of the running back carries. Mostert’s only concern is how much of a committee he’s in, and Week 1 was a great start to assuage that concern.

The Jets actually held Devin Singletary and Zach Moss to just 41 yards on 18 carries last week, but that seems more a product of the Bills’ rushing attack, and less an indicator of quality defense. The Jets look like they’re going to be bad across the board, and Mostert should benefit this week. He’s a solid RB2 option in all league formats, with significant upside as a playmaker.

SF RB Raheem Mostert - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Raheem Mostert came out of nowhere last year to take over the lead back role down the stretch. He wound up with 772 rushing yards, 180 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns on the season, with six of those touchdowns coming in the last seven games of the season. If Mostert continues to get the 14 touches per game he got over the final five games, he’ll be a solid RB2 throughout this year. He may or may not see that work though, with Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon supposedly in line for some work as well.

To kick off 2020, Mostert has a pretty good matchup. The Cardinals ranked 18th in aFPA to opposing running backs last season. While they added some talented youth to the defense in the offseason, they should still struggle defensively, giving the 49ers’ offensive players high upside to start the season. We have Mostert ranked as a low-end RB2, with a little bit of workload risk in what could lean committee.
