Scouting report

DAL RB Rico Dowdle - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 @ Philadelphia Eagles
Rico Dowdle had a bit of an out-of-nowhere clunker in Week 16, earning 23 yards on 13 carries (1.77 YPA) with a long of 6 yards. Better yet, Ezekiel Elliott cultured a touchdown from the one-yard-line to add icing to the cake. Luckily, Dowdle caught all three of his targets to avoid a complete disaster, but it was still a performance to forget.

Now he gets an Eagles defense that ranks 2nd in RB aFPA, and the team will be missing stud wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, which definitely impacts the offense's ability to move the ball. Dowdle was a pleasant surprise in the second half of the season, but he should be considered in the fringe RB2/3 range in Week 17.

DAL RB Rico Dowdle - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Coming off of a massive 149-yard rushing performance in Week 15, Rico Dowdle has further solidified the fact that giving any other RB the ball is a -EV decision. The Buccaneers are easier to attack through the air than the ground, but that might simply equate to more targets for the RB, which is just fine by us. Consider him a fringe RB1/2 in Week 16.

DAL RB Rico Dowdle - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 @ Carolina Panthers
It took a while for the Cowboys to completely hand the reigns over to Rico Dowdle as the no-doubt RB1 bellcow, and though it was rough sledding through much of the year, we're gifted with a fantastic matchup in Week 1 of the Fantasy Playoffs. Dowdle could easily handle 20+ opportunities against a Panthers defense that ranks 31st in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to the position, which puts him in the conversation as a back-end RB1 in Week 15.

DAL RB Rico Dowdle - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Rico Dowdle is the unquestioned RB1 in Dallas, but the Cowboys decided to wait until their season was effectively over before making the call, which is a total bummer for fantasy managers. He's fine as a volume-based RB2 but his ceiling is severely capped in a terrible offense.

DAL RB Rico Dowdle - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Houston Texans
Rico Dowdle now finds himself as the undoubted RB1 on this team, but in the first full game with Cooper Rush/Trey Lance, he mustered only 7.1 half-PPR points on 15 opportunities. We should expect the same type of plodding offense in Week 11, and against the fourth-best defense in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to the position, Dowdle is firmly an RB3 option.
