Scouting report

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Robby Anderson had a modest 74 yards on six catches last week. While D.J. Moore went off for two touchdowns against the Saints, Anderson continued to grind out solid production. He had eight targets, and is now averaging 8.4 targets per game. Anderson has developed a nice rapport with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and has double-digit PPR points in every game so far this season.

This week, Anderson has a fantastic matchup against the Falcons, who rank 22nd in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Expect Anderson to continue to thrive in this offense and in a game that could potentially be a shootout, Anderson should be active in all leagues as a borderline WR1 this week.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New Orleans Saints

Robby Anderson had a modest 77 yards on four receptions last week against the Bears. It was a tough matchup, but Anderson had a great 39-yard reception and he continues to be a productive addition to this offense. Anderson hasn’t found the end zone since Week 1, which is concerning, but he is averaging 8.5 targets per game, more than D.J. Moore.

This week, Anderson faces a Saints defense that ranks 18th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers, giving Anderson upside if he gets his usual eight targets or more. The Saints should be able to put up points, and if so, the Panthers will need to throw the ball. Expect fringe WR1 numbers for Anderson in a nice matchup.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Chicago Bears

Robby Anderson continued his productive first season in Carolina last week with eight catches for 112 yards against the Falcons. Anderson has over 100 yards in three of the first five games, and is averaging 9.4 targets, including 13 last week. He has to be thrilled to not be under the tyrannical rule of Adam Gase anymore after a forgettable season in 2019, and he’s still just 27 years old.

This week, Anderson faces a Chicago Bears defense that ranks third in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Because the Bears seem to be a bit easier to run against than to throw, fantasy owners should temper expectations. If the Panthers can avoid letting the Bears get up early, they should be able to challenge them with a ball-control approach. Anderson has big-play ability, which should help, but we have him ranked as a middle-tier WR2 this week.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Atlanta Falcons

Robby Anderson has been one of the better reclamation stories of recent years in his first season with the Panthers. Through four games, he’s averaging seven receptions and 94.25 yards per game, including eight catches and 99 yards last week against the Cardinals. Anderson also led the team with 11 targets last week, and he now leads the Panthers with 34 on the season. He’s thus far outplayed D.J. Moore and should be considered a legit threat as the WR1 on this team.

Despite being dead last in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, Atlanta actually ranks 2nd against wide receivers. This is largely due to the success tight ends and running backs have had in the receiving game against them, as they’ve still allowed more touchdown passes – 13 – than any other team in the league this season. Expect Anderson to continue his early-season run and produce in what should be a solid matchup. Start him as a WR2.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Robby Anderson is off to a great start with the Panthers. While he only had 55 yards last week, he caught all five of his targets and has now caught 20-of-23 targets through three games. Anderson provides big-play ability to the offense and is a clear improvement over Curtis Samuel as the WR2 behind D.J. Moore. He’s even making a case for himself as WR1 or WR1a.

This week, expect the Panthers to target Anderson against a Cardinals defense that ranks 10th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. The Cardinals will likely focus the defensive attention on Moore, which should open up Anderson in a game that could be high scoring, or could at least produce negative game script for the Panthers, as Arizona will try to recover offensively from their Week 3 debacle against Detroit. Anderson has WR2 upside this week.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Los Angeles Chargers

Robby Anderson has started his Panthers career with two straight 100-plus yard receiving games, catching nine balls for 109 yards against the Buccaneers last week. The Panthers look like they’re going to be throwing the ball a lot – they’ve given up 65 points in two games – so he has significant upside as a steady fantasy option moving forward.

This week, temper expectations for Anderson against a Chargers defense that has looked pretty solid against wide receivers so far this year. They’ve only given up one touchdown to a wide receiver – a 54-yard bomb to Tyreek Hill late last week – and have yet to give up a 100-yard receiver. Anderson’s volume makes him worth considering as a WR3/Flex option, but he’s risky in a tough matchup.

CAR WR Robby Anderson - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Robby Anderson had a great debut with the Panthers, catching six of the eight balls thrown his way for 115 yards and a touchdown. It’s a little misleading, because one of those catches was for 75 yards, which you can’t count on every week, but he’s made a career of being a legit deep threat, and that should continue to pay dividends from time to time.

The Buccaneers defense held the four top Saints wide receivers to just 53 combined yards on eight receptions last week, so this isn’t a great matchup for Anderson to repeat his Week 1 performance. Keep an eye on him, and he’s worth adding to fantasy rosters in case the targets keep coming, but leave him on the bench this week in a tough matchup.
