Scouting report

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets

After becoming a fantasy darling, Sam Howell has suddenly dropped off a cliff in terms of his passing production lately. In Howell's last two games he's finished with 127 yards and 102 yards. And last week he was replaced by Jacoby Brissett in the 4th quarter. Since Week 7, he's only had two games with multiple passing touchdowns, although he's been bailed out by a streak of rushing scores lately. Also since Week 7 (an eight game span), he's had 10 turnovers. Things don't get much easier this week as Howell gets a brutal matchup vs. the Jets (1st aFPA). Howell may have helped you get to this point in the fantasy playoffs, but we'd look elsewhere for your QB in Week 16 if possible.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Los Angeles Rams

Sam Howell had his worst game of the season as a passer in Week 13, finishing with 127 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. However he salvaged the performance by running in two touchdowns. It continues a recent trend as Howell has only thrown for one touchdown in his last three games, but has rushed in four during that same span. Howell still remains a top option at QB despite some of his recent passing struggles. This week he draws a favorable matchup vs. the Rams (25th aFPA). We still like him as a top 10 option at his position for Week 15.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Miami Dolphins

Sam Howell played well last week against a tough Cowboys defense. He threw for 300 yards with an interception while also rushing for 13 yards and a touchdown. Howell continues to lead the NFL in passing yards, mostly because Washington's defense is so bad that it requires Howell to keep slinging it to remain in the game. That works out in fantasy as Howell is QB4 on the year. Expect more of the same from Howell this week as he gets a decent matchup against the Dolphins (20th aFPA). Although Miami's defense has stepped it up in recent weeks after the return of Jalen Ramsey. Still, Howell should be viewed as a top 10 option at QB in Week 13.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Dallas Cowboys

Sam Howell had an OK outing last week. He threw for 255 yards, ran for 35 yards, scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing), but had three interceptions. It wasn't the prettiest game, but Howell made up for his turnovers in other areas. He continues to be a solid option in fantasy, scoring multiple touchdowns in five of his last seven games. He gets a tough task this week, though, as he faces the Cowboys (10th aFPA). Dallas has given up the 2nd-fewest total pass yards this season and has the 4th-most interceptions (tied) in the league. Howell has been a strong option at QB for most of the season, but if you have a better option this week we'd likely avoid Howell.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. New York Giants

Sam Howell turned in another great outing last week, finishing with 312 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Through Week 10, Howell actually leads the entire NFL in pass yards. He's also been finding the end zone as he has at least three scores in three of his last five games. He's worked his way up to QB3 in fantasy, mostly thanks to his defense that's giving up so many points, it forces Howell to throw the ball a ton. This week Howell faces the Giants (15th aFPA), and he should continue to be viewed as a QB1 option, although this week he's more on the low-end side of being a QB1.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Seattle Seahawks

Sam Howell had a decent outing last week, finishing with 325 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He also added 27 yards on the ground. This was was Howell's fifth game with at least 290 yards passing this season. Howell is currently QB6 in fantasy this season. The Commanders' defense has given up the most points in the league, which means Howell is often throwing the ball a ton to keep up, which leads to solid numbers in fantasy. Howell should continue to produce in Week 10 as he faces a favorable matchup against the Seahawks (25th aFPA). Howell should be viewed as a top 10 option at quarterback in Week 10.

WAS QB Sam Howell - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New England Patriots

Sam Howell had his best game of the year last week, throwing for a season-high 397 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Howell has surprisingly been a really good option at quarterback this season as he's currently QB8. Outside of an ugly game vs. Buffalo, Howell has been a reliable player, averaging the 7th-most pass yards per game out of all QBs (268.3). Howell gets a tough matchup against the Patriots this week (8th aFPA), but we just saw Tua Tagovailoa have a good game against New England a week ago. With bye weeks and injuries involved, Howell suddenly jumps into the top 10 QB conversation for Week 9.
