Scouting report

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Baltimore Ravens

Sam LaPorta managed just 36 yards in four catches against the Buccaneers but he was also dealing with a calf injury that may have limited him during the game. He should be better this week against the Ravens. He’s proven to be a really nice option at a position that can get very volatile. He has five games with at least four catches. He’s been fairly consistent this season. With six teams on a bye, LaPorta has even more value this week.

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sam LaPorta is coming off a two-touchdown performance last week against the Panthers and now has three in his last three games. However, he did not practice Thursday with a calf injury, so keep a very close eye on the Lions’ injury report. If he plays, he’s a good start once again. But be sure first that he is playing before you put him on your lineup.

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Carolina Panthers

Another more-than-fine outing for the rookie tight end who is not performing like a typical rookie tight end. That's three straight games with at least 50 yards. Just need to get him into the end zone. But he remains a top option for QB Jared Goff even with WR Jameson Williams returning from suspension this week. Even in a tough matchup, LaPorta is currently our No. 3 tight end option this week.

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Green Bay Packers

So far, Sam LaPorta hasn't been your typical rookie tight end. He's actually making an impact for the Lions and for your fantasy team. He's averaging 6 catches and about 60 yards per game. He scored his first NFL touchdown last week against the Falcons. He's quickly turning into the No. 2 option in the passing game for Jared Goff. His 18 catches through three weeks are a rookie record, by the way. He's earned TE1 status going forward.

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Lions certainly like their new tight end. Sam LaPorta has recorded five catches in two straight games with 11 targets. As he gets more comfortable in the offense, Jared Goff will continue to give him more opportunities. LaPorta has worked his way into being a borderline TE1, if not a little higher as arguably a top-10 option against the Falcons.

DET TE Sam LaPorta - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Sam LaPorta got off to a good start in his NFL career catching all five of his targets for 39 yards. LaPorta is quickly moving up the tight end board in fantasy circles. It's only one week, but our matchup rankings have the Seahawks as the easiest matchup for opposing tight ends, so LaPorta is an intriguing option this week.

DET TE Sam Laporta - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Kansas City Chiefs

The rookie tight end Sam Laporta has a chance to make some noise early for the Lions. Rookie tight ends are noticeably meant to be cautiously handled, but Laporta already looks like he’ll be the No. 2 option down the field for the Lions, at punt be early part of the season while Jameson Williams is suspended for the first six games of the season. Laporta will certainly like being part of a legit offense following what he had to deal with at Iowa. He’s a TE2 this week with upside.
