The Chiefs placed RB Spencer Ware (shoulder) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: 

Ware’s return to the Chiefs lasted just three weeks. The move leaves the Chiefs with Damien Williams, Darwin Thompson and LeSean McCoy (who was inactive in Week 16) at running back. The Chiefs can still get a bye, but the Patriots will likely take care of ten Dolphins early, meaning players might be rested and limited against the Chargers, though Kansas City could still drop to the fourth seed with a loss. In any event, it’s looking like more of a foggy situation in the Chiefs backfield for the regular season finale.

Chiefs RB Damien Williams (rib) did not practice Wednesday. Per Adam Teicher, Williams "has a chance to play Sunday." If he does, he'll likely form a committee with LeSean McCoy (and perhaps Darwin Thompson) against the Patriots. The Chiefs also signed Spencer Ware this week.

On the Spencer Ware signing, my understanding is that Damien Williams has a chance to play Sunday at Patriots.

Fantasy Impact: 

So Ware at this point is more an emergency signing, Teicher believes, but Chiefs will see how the week works out for Damien Williams. If Damien Williams goes, it's likely McCoy and Damien Williams splitting the workload. If Damien Williams is out, Thompson and McCoy could share with Ware and emergency option either way. Darrel Williams isn't expected to play this week.

Cardinals to work out RBs

The Arizona Cardinals are bringing in a couple of veteran running backs for workouts, according to multiple reports.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Arizona was going to work out Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware.

Related players: David Johnson, Chase Edmonds, D.J. Foster

Fantasy Impact: 

Johnson owners have likely learned their lesson after last week when Johnson got one carry before turning things over to Edmonds. It's a situation to monitor as Foster is also banged up, so if the team signs another back, it may not necessarily mean Johnson won't return to his normal workload in Week 8.
