Scouting report

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Chicago Bears

The Chiefs have officially moved to a three-man backfield between LeSean McCoy, Spencer Ware and Darwin Thompson. All three were used pretty similarly in Week 15, and we expect that trend to continue. For the second straight week, Ware saw the most snaps, but none of the three backs really made a difference. They all cancel each other out, making the three backs nothing more than desperation flex plays in the hopes you picked correctly on which one scores a touchdown.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Denver Broncos

Spencer Ware saw the most snaps among Chiefs running backs last week, but had the lowest amount of production (two scrimmage yards). We'd mostly try to stay away from Chiefs backs this week.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 19 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Spencer Ware missed the last three games of the season with an injury and is listed as questionable headed in to this game. He could play, but even if he does we expect Damien Williams to be the lead back. Ware is a risky option.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Oakland Raiders

Spencer Ware is expected back after he was able to practice both last week and this week. But Damien Williams has been excellent in Ware's absence (two 100-yard games) and he was given a contract extension. We think Williams is the back to own in Week 17, making Ware a risky option.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Seattle Seahawks

Spencer Ware sat out last week, but he's been practicing all week and received extra rest due to the bye last week. He's on pace for a return in Week 16, but he comes back to a muddled backfield due to the success of Damien Williams. It's tough to predict where Ware stands right now, but he can be viewed as a flex option should he return.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Spencer Ware was a letdown in his first game filling in for Kareem Hunt. He struggled against the league's worst rush defense, finishing with 47 yards on 14 carries (3.4 ypc). He did get a touchdown and some other goal-line work, however, so it could have been worse.

He gets a brutal matchup this week against the Ravens who are giving up the fewest fantasy points to running backs. Baltimore is allowing just 87.3 rush yards per game (third fewest) and 3.8 yards per carry (third fewest). Ware should be viewed as an RB2 this week with a possibility for a real dud performance.

KC RB Spencer Ware - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Oakland Raiders

UPDATE:Kareem Hunt has been released by the Chiefs, which means Spencer Ware takes over starting duties. Hunt was one of the top-scoring backs in fantasy this season, so we expect Ware to pick up where Hunt left off.

Ware was a great starting running back in 2016 when he rushed for 921 yards in 14 games. He should fit right in with the Chiefs' offense and can be viewed as an RB1 option this week against Oakland.

The Raiders who allowed at least 110 rushing yards to backs in every game but two this season. In fact, Oakland is allowing the most rush yards per game (151.4) as well as the fifth-most yards per carry (4.9).

Original Outlook

The Chiefs put up 546 total yards and scored 51 points in their last game, and Spencer Ware didn't get a single touch. He might be worth a bench-stash in case Kareem Hunt gets injured, but otherwise he holds no value.
