Scouting report

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Green Bay Packers

Taylor Heinicke had a surprisingly bad game last week, finishing with a season-low 182 pass yards while throwing just one touchdown and an interception. It was supposed to be a great matchup for Heinicke, who has turned in some productive performances so far this season, but for whatever reason he couldn't get it going. He gets another good matchup this week against the Packers, who are 22nd in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Heinicke won't be an elite option this week, but he's a solid streaming option as he nears the top 15 quarterbacks for the week.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Taylor Heinicke had his first bad game last week as he failed to find the endzone. Prior to last week, Heinicke had scored at least twice in every start. He also made things worse by throwing two interceptions. There were some positive takeaways, though. He still had 248 yards passing, and 40 yards rushing. He's averaged nearly 30 rush yards in his four starts this season.

We expect Heinicke to bounce back this week in a favorable matchup against the Chiefs who are 30th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Washington and the Chiefs have two of the worst passing defenses in the league, so there's a chance this thing ends in an offensive shootout. Heinicke is averaging about 300 total yards and two total touchdowns per game and gets a great matchup. He'll be a strong option this week, especially for fantasy owners who are streaming quarterbacks. He has a chance to crack the top 10 at his position this week.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New Orleans Saints

Taylor Heinicke has turned into a solid streaming quarterback this season. In a favorable matchup last week, Heinicke had a strong performance, finishing with 290 passing yards, 43 rushing yards and three touchdowns. In his three starts, Heinicke has finished with at least two touchdowns while averaging around 280 pass yards and 20 rush yards. He gets a tougher matchup this week against the Saints who are 5th in 4for4's schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed. The Saints have a strong 5-7 TD-INT ratio allowed while limiting quarterbacks on the ground as well. Heinicke wouldn't be a horrible choice as he's inside our top 20 QB rankings, but there are better streaming options available at QB this week.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Atlanta Falcons

Taylor Heinicke performed well in Week 3 considering he faced a tough Bills defense. Heinicke threw for 212 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing eight times for 21 yards and a score (he also caught a pass for -2 yards). If Heinicke was able to do that against a tough Bills team, then he should have no problem finding success against the Falcons this week, who are giving up the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Atlanta has given up eight passing touchdowns (second-most in the league) while not intercepting a pass. Atlanta even struggles to contain QBs on the ground, giving up the fourth-most rushing yards to quarterbacks this season. While Heinicke isn't a top 10 option this week, he is around the top 15. He should be a solid streaming option for owners who went that route in redraft leagues.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Buffalo Bills

Taylor Heinicke looked good in his Week 2 start, finishing with 336 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception. It's a small sample size, but Heinicke now has thrown for 300+ yards in each of his two starts for Washington. Heinicke could be a decent streaming option in the future, but not this week. He faces a brutal Buffalo defense that's allowed the fewest fantasy points to QBs so far this season. The Bills have had the ninth-most pass attempts against them and have allowed the third-fewest passing yards. They've also given up just one total touchdown to QBs so far. We have Heinicke ranked outside of our top 25 quarterbacks for the week.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New York Giants

Taylor Heinicke filled in for Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 1 after an early injury, finishing 11-of-15 for 122 yards and a touchdown (with an additional 17 rushing yards). While he didn't play a full game, he did play 71% of the snaps, so those numbers aren't great for the amount he played. And he doesn't even get a full week of practice to prepare for Week 2 as this game is on a shortened week starting Thursday. Heinicke showed some promise last year, notably in Washington's playoff game when he threw for over 300 yards and ran for another 46, scoring two total touchdowns. We wouldn't expect that this week against the Giants. We'd expect slightly better numbers than we saw in Heinicke's Week 1 game, putting him outside the top 20 quarterbacks for Week 2.

WAS QB Taylor Heinicke - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Philadelphia Eagles

Alex Smith is questionable heading into the Week 17 matchup, which means Taylor Heinicke may get the start. Heinicke looked decent last week in mop-up duty, finishing with 137 yards and a touchdown with 22 rushing yards while only playing on 35% of the snaps. He also gets a favorable matchup against the Eagles (No. 21 aFPA) this week. But most of you are playing in your fantasy football championship, and do you really want to start someone making their second career start in their sixth NFL season? Heinicke is outside the top 20 QB options in Week 17.
