DET RB Theo Riddick - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Theo Riddick Preseason Preview

Fantasy Upside
Last season Theo Riddick remained a valuable weapon as a pass-catcher, registering 80 grabs for 697 yards and three TDs. He was targeted 99 times. In the past two seasons, he’s caught 114 passes with seven of those resulting in scores. While he doesn’t get to carry the pigskin very often, Theo had a career-high 43 rushes for 133 yards in ’15. With the uncertainty in the Detroit backfield, he may be called upon for more carries this season, especially if Ameer Abdullah again has trouble hanging on to the ball. Four times last season he finished with at least seven receptions in a game.

Fantasy Downside
The Lions were dead last in the league in rushing last season and things won’t improve that much this year. Even though Riddick’s biggest value, not surprisingly, is in the passing game, Detroit would like to continue to have a balanced attack, which means Matthew Stafford will not be heaving it up as often as he did in the past.

Bottom Line
Riddick is a fantastic PPR player, averaging five receptions per game last season. While he will again be down on the Lions RB depth chart, Detroit loves getting him the ball in open space, so he might be worth a late round selection, especially in those PPR leagues.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Chicago
In the home victory over the 49ers last Sunday, Theo Riddick ran seven times for 20 yards and also caught seven passes for 63 additional yards. He has registered at least five grabs in six of the past eight contests. While he has three scores on the season, he hasn’t been in the end zone since Thanksgiving. Riddick totaled 78 yards in the overtime victory against Chicago in Week 6 and will again receive some looks from Matthew Stafford in the passing game. He should still only be started in PPR leagues though.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. San Francisco
With the Lions ground game working last week in New Orleans, Matthew Stafford threw a season-low 25 passes. While he completed 22 of them, Theo Riddick finished with only two grabs for 27 yards, along with two rushes for three yards. Look for more of the same from the Detroit offense at home versus the 49ers on Sunday. Riddick is a risky play, even in PPR leagues.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at New Orleans
Theo Riddick had another good performance out of the backfield last week in St. Louis. He finished with seven grabs for 44 yards and also ran three times for 18 more yards. His 11 targets was a team-high and he also led the RBs with the 10 touches. Joique Bell and Ameer Abdullah will continue to anchor the ground attack, while Theo remains a solid PPR start, especially facing a Saints defense that allows 415 total yards per game.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at St. Louis
Theo Riddick continues to receive looks in the Lions passing attack, as he collected five catches for 27 yards in the loss to the Packers last Thursday. He has caught five balls in three straight and in eight of the 12 games this season he’s registered at least that many grabs. With a crowded Detroit backfield, however, Riddick really only has value in PPR leagues.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Green Bay
Philly had a hard time containing Theo Riddick on Thanksgiving, as he caught five passes for 62 yards and his third touchdown of the season. In the past four weeks, Theo has registered at least five receptions three times and been over 60 yards twice. At Green Bay in Week 10 Riddick caught three passes for 25 yards, but he remains a nice option in PPR leagues with 55 grabs on the year.

DET RB Theo Riddick - Week 12, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Philadelphia
In the win over the Raiders a few days ago, Theo Riddick totaled 86 yards on a season-high 11 touches. He caught five passes for 72 yards, his highest receiving total of 2015, and has the most receptions (50) of any RB in the league. While Theo hasn’t topped 30 rushing yards in any contest this season, he definitely has value in PPR leagues. The Eagles have struggled at stopping the pass lately, making Riddick a RB3/flex start on Turkey Day.
