JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Indianapolis Colts

After a forgettable rookie season, Trevor Lawrence took his game to another level in 2022 under the professional care of Doug Pederson. Lawrence passed for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding another 291 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Lawrence posted 17.4 Half-PPR points per game and finished as the QB7 overall.

Lawrence should get his 2023 campaign off to a good start against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. The Colts were 22nd in aFPA to quarterbacks a year ago, and while a new defensive staff is in place many of the personnel are the same from 2022. Lawrence should be viewed as a mid-tier QB1 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
What a difference a year makes, You don't need a math degree to measure the progress made in Year 2 by Trevor Lawrence, who doubled his touchdown total and sliced his interceptions in half while leading the Jaguars to the playoffs. At 23, the former No. 1 overall pick matched Deshaun Watson (2018) as the youngest QB in NFL history to throw for at least 4,000 yards with 25-plus TDs and fewer than 10 picks. He formed instant connections last season with WRs Christian Kirk and Zay Jones and hopes to do the same with newcomer Calvin Ridley, a 90-1,374-9 performer with Atlanta in 2020. The Jaguars also used their first three 2023 draft picks on Lawrence's side of the ball, adding OT Anton Harrison, TE Brenton Strange and RB Tank Bigsby. Harrison is the likely replacement for blind-side protector Cam Robinson, who will miss the start of the season on a PED suspension.

Fantasy Downside
Lawrence will never be Jalen Hurts or Daniel Jones, so he lacks the rushing upside of other elite fantasy passers. Still, he did rush for five scores to cement his spot in the fantasy top 10.

2023 Bottom Line
With Lawrence entering his third season with momentum, 4for4's John Paulsen believes fantasy managers should confidently draft him as the seventh or eighth quarterback off the board.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Houston Texans

Playing in what was practically a New Jersey monsoon, Trevor Lawrence saw his streak of games with at least one touchdown pass end at seven, as he racked up 229 scoreless yards against the Jets in Week 16. He saved his fantasy day with seven rushes for 51 yards and a touchdown, his fifth rushing score of the season. These deeds gave Lawrence 18.3 fantasy points, which was enough for him to finish as QB10.

On paper, the Jaguars should make short work of the Houston Texans this week. But that doesn't mean Lawrence is destined for fantasy stardom. The Texans rank second in aFPA, with teams much happier running on them than passing. Still, Lawrence's recent good run of form should keep him in the QB1 conversation this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets

Week 15 saw another wonderful performance from Trevor Lawrence, both in fantasy and reality. Lawrence passed for 318 yards and four touchdowns, adding another 21 yards on three rushes, as the Jaguars came back to beat the Dallas Cowboys in overtime. He did throw an interception, his first since Week 8, and lost a fumble. But Lawrence was still able to put up 26.8 fantasy points, finishing as the QB6 last week.

Lawrence lost his left tackle Cam Robinson to a season-ending injury in Week 15, a loss that makes his matchup against the Jets even more unappealing. The Jets rank fourth in aFPA to quarterbacks this season and have given up the fourth-fewest passing yards. The Jets have an imposing 13-12 touchdown to interception ratio, too. Lawrence should be viewed as a high-end QB2 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Dallas Cowboys

It was a day when everything came together for Trevor Lawrence in Week 14. He completed 30 of his 42 pass attempts for a season-high 368 yards while also tossing three touchdowns in a game for the third time this season. Just for good measure, Lawrence also rushed for another touchdown on his way to 33.4 fantasy points. Lawrence was the overall QB1 in Week 14.

He would do very well to repeat these deeds in Week 15 as he faces off against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys rank third in aFPA to quarterbacks this season, having allowed just 15 touchdown passes against 11 interceptions. But Lawrence is in a rich vein of form, and we project him to finish as a top-ten player in Week 15.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Tennessee Titans

Trevor Lawrence endured a pretty miserable game against the Lions in Week 13. He completed just 54.85 of his passes, going 17-31 for a mere 179 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed four times for another 32 yards, but could only muster up 16.4 fantasy points. Lawrence finished as the QB14 in fantasy. He did appear to suffer a nasty-looking leg injury toward the end of the first half against the Lions, but Lawrence missed only a few plays.

Lawrence should be able to bounce back in Week 14 against a pass-funnel defense in the Titans. The Titans rank 28th in aFPA to quarterbacks this season, allowing 294 passing yards per game while allowing 22 passing scores. Lawrence should be in the top 12 conversation when all is said and done this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Detroit Lions

Trevor Lawrence was nothing short of exceptional against the Ravens in Week 12, throwing for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Lawrence has six touchdown passes in his last three games and hasn't thrown an interception in that time. Lawrence logged 24.9 fantasy points and finished as the QB5.

Lawrence is in a prime position to smash again in Week 13 as the Jaguars travel to the Detroit Lions. No team ranks lower in aFPA to quarterbacks than the Lions, who have allowed 18 passing touchdowns and another six on the ground. Lawrence projects to be a high-end QB1 this week.
