Scouting report

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
After two seasons of little relevance, Tyler Boyd had a breakout season in 2018. He caught 76 passes for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. Like a lot of receivers, Boyd figured out his third season and became one of the more effective slot receivers in the NFL.

Fantasy Downside
Part of the reason for Boyd’s success was A.J. Green missing six games. He was targeted 108 times which is one reason for the strong numbers. However, those numbers could regress if Green is healthy. Boyd will still be the Bengals No. 2 receiver, but it will be hard to reach those numbers from 2018.

2019 Bottom Line
Boyd proved he can get it done and will still see many targets, but his numbers won’t reach last year’s levels, mainly because of Green’s return. His ADP is 70 right now, but he should be taken earlier as he ranks a high-end WR3. A sixth-round pick will net you Boyd and get you about 70 catches for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. UPDATE: With AJ Green out 6 to 8 weeks, Boyd's stock goes up slightly, depending if Green will miss regular season games.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Oakland Raiders

Tyler Boyd has slid into the No. 1 wide receiver spot for the Bengals and he has handled it well. The main problem is Jeff Driskel is now the quarterback and the overall passing numbers have decreased. Last week, Boyd had three receptions which tied his season-low. He still managed 52 receiving yards.

Bengals face the Raiders who are eighth in aFPA to wide receivers. This will be a tough matchup for Boyd, but he still remains a viable play for Week 15. Start him as a low-end WR2 against Oakland.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Los Angeles Chargers

Another strong game for Tyler Boyd who caught six passes for 97 yards. He has been targeted 27 times over the last three games and with A.J. Green now done for the season, Boyd becomes the No. 1 receiver for Cincinnati. However, starting quarterback Andy Dalton is also out for the season which is a negative for the Bengals passing game.

It won't be easy for Boyd this weekend on the road in Los Angeles, as the Chargers are third in aFPA to wide receivers. The targets should still be there for Boyd and despite the unfavorable matchup, that is enough to keep him in your starting lineup as a high-end WR3 for Week 14.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos

Tyler Boyd had a good game last week catching seven passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. It was the first game he scored since Week 8. Boyd has been the No. 1 receiver for the Bengals but AJ Green will return this week which takes away some value from Boyd. A bigger factor is QB Andy Dalton is out for the season. Jeff Driskel will get his first NFL start.

The Bengals will face Denver who is 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. When Green was in the lineup, Boyd was still putting up good numbers and so his value will take a hit but a slight one. Boyd rates as a high-end WR3 or flex for Week 13.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Cleveland Browns

With A.J. Green out, Tyler Boyd was targeted 11 times last week. However, it only produced four catches for 71 yards. He has not scored a touchdown the last two games, but still has five for the season. Green is not expected to play this week so Boyd will still be the primary receiver.

Boyd will face the Browns who are 15th in aFPA to wide receivers. The neutral matchup and absence of Green will help Boyd so start him for Week 12 against Cleveland as a WR2.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Baltimore Ravens

With No. 1 receiver AJ Green out, Tyler Boyd took over that role but was limited to four targets and three receptions for 65 yards. Overall, it was a tough day for the Bengals offense and that affected everyone's fantasy stats last Sunday. Boyd will resume that role this week as Green is not expected to play.

In the first meeting with the Ravens this season, Boyd was very good with six catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. But the Bengals were much better early in the season and Baltimore's defense is now ranked fifth in aFPA to wide receivers. We expect to see Cincy try to get the ball to Boyd, but his impact will be limited to a low-end WR2 for Week 11.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New Orleans Saints

Tyler Boyd was outstanding last week with nine catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. The breakout season continues for the third year receiver who will now take over the No. 1 receiver role for a couple weeks because of an injury to AJ Green. Boyd will continue to get similar targets and put up similar numbers even with his new role.

He will face the Saints who are last in aFPA to wide receivers so with a great matchup and Boyd's production this season, his status for the first time this season is a WR1. Start him in all leagues and formats.
