Scouting report

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tyler Boyd had his worst game since Week 1 and was limited to three receptions for 27 yards. He also had a season-low four targets. Boyd has attracted more attention from opposing defenses and his numbers have suffered since back-to-back 100+ receiving yard games earlier this season. Also, No. 1 receiver AJ Green's numbers have risen during that time span.

Boyd will face the Buccaneers who are 31st in aFPA to wide receivers. We expect a big game for the Cincy offense and Boyd should benefit in Week 8. Start him as a WR2 this Sunday.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Kansas City Chiefs

Tyler Boyd continues to make a fantasy impact. This time it was in the end zone. Boyd scored two touchdowns against the Steelers and also had seven catches for 62 yards. His numbers have been great and he continues to do it with A.J. Green still getting his as well.

Boyd will face Kansas City who is 17th in aFPA to wide receivers this week. Boyd is destined for another great fantasy day. Start him in all league and formats as a low-end WR1. That will give the Bengals two legit fantasy receivers for Week 7.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
After recording 323 receiving yards in his last three games, Tyler Boyd came back to earth with a four catch, 44 yard day. Boyd has been a big story in the first quarter of the season and has become a legit No. 2 receiver for Cincy. He is tied for the team lead in targets with No. 1 receiver AJ Green.

Boyd will face a Steelers defense that is 21st in aFPA to wide receivers. With a favorable matchup and with the way he has played so far in 2018, Boyd is a solid WR2 for Week 6.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Miami Dolphins
Tyler Boyd had never had more than six catches in his career before this season. He has had six twice already in 2018 and then topped that last week with 11. He also recorded his second straight 100+ yard receiving game. Interesting that he is the most targeted receiver on the Bengals, even more than No. 1 AJ Green.

Boyd faces a Miami pass defense that is below average so he could have a big game again, although you wonder if Green is due to break out which would take away some of the Boyd's targets and stats. We are being cautious with Boyd for Week 5. Start him but only has a high-end WR3 or flex.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Atlanta Falcons

With A.J. Green going down with a groin injury and missing the second half, Tyler Boyd took over. The Bengals' No. 2 WR caught six passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. He has started to emerge as a serious fantasy receiver.

He will face the Falcons this week, who are ranked 28th in aFPA to wide receivers. We still want to see more from Boyd, but he should definitely be on your roster. He rates as a low-end WR3 or flex play for Week 4.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Carolina Panthers

They say an NFL wide receiver's third year is usually a breakout or bust year and we might be witnessing a breakout season for Tyler Boyd. He looked very good on Thursday night. For the season, he now has 14 targets. Last week, he was tied for the team lead with A.J. Green with nine targets, which produced six receptions for 91 yards and touchdown.

Boyd will face a Panthers pass defense that has not been very good early in the season, ranking 27th in aFPA to wide receivers. Despite the positive outing last week and the good matchup against Carolina, Boyd's fantasy value is low until we see more games like last week. He should definitely be considered for a bench spot, but should not be in your starting lineup for Week 3.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Tyler Boyd could be due for a breakout season as he enters his third year in the NFL. He caught 54 passes his rookie year, showing he can be a factor. There is opportunity on this roster for someone to get targets and catches opposite A.J. Green.

Fantasy Upside

Boyd had a tough second season— 22 catches in 10 games. He had trouble staying healthy. Cincinnati sees him as the No. 3 receiver at this point behind Green and John Ross.

2018 Bottom Line

Is the third season the one for Boyd to become a factor? He might not get much of a chance. He isn't getting drafted and is our No. 87 ranked receiver going into the season. Boyd shouldn't be on a fantasy roster Week 1 unless you play in a league with really deep rosters.
