Scouting report

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
The Bengals passing game has been clicking the last two weeks and Tyler Boyd was a big recipient of that success. He was targeted 13 times which produced 10 receptions for 125 yards. The only downside was he didn't reach the end zone. Even with the return of A.J. Green, it appears Boyd has taken over as the No. 1 receiver.

Boyd will face the Jaguars who are 21st in aFPA to wide receivers. The Bengals have three legit receivers with the emergence of Tee Higgins. Yes, Boyd had a big game last Sunday, but it could be anyone this week.

Start Boyd as a low-end WR2. QB Joe Burrow should have a good game, but he will also spread the ball more. Boyd might be his favorite target but we don't expect the 13 targets again.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Philadelphia
After a fairly quiet Week 1 for Tyler Boyd, he bounced back for some good numbers in Week 2. He had seven receptions for 72 yards and his first touchdown of the season. The Bengals passing game was good statistically last week despite the loss. There are still some questions about who will benefit the most as the season goes on.

Boyd will face the Eagles who are 26th in aFPA to wide receivers. Philly has struggled through two games so it could be an opportunity for all the Bengals receivers.

Boyd is a borderline starter for Week 3. He has more value in PPR leagues and ranks a low-end WR3 or Flex against Philadelphia. For standard leagues, he might be better off on the bench.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Cleveland
It was a frustrating day for Tyler Boyd after really coming of age the past couple seasons. He didn't have a catch until the second half and finished with four receptions on five targets for 33 yards. One factor is the Bengals are being conservative early with rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. Another factor is the return of A.J. Green who was targeted nine times.

The Browns are up next and are ranked 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. Don't pay attention to that quite yet. Boyd was average against Cleveland last season and didn't have a big game.

We will let this play out a little more to see where Boyd and Green stand in the Bengals passing game. Both will be used, but will Burrow favor Green more like he did on Sunday? Boyd ranks a low-end WR3 or flex for Thursday night. He is probably worth a roster spot if you think Cleveland's defense is as bad as it looked Sunday.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Tyler Boyd had a tremendous season in 2019 with the absence of veteran WR A.J. Green. He proved he could be a No. 1 type receiver in the NFL and but his fantasy numbers didn't translate to a WR1. Part of that might have been the overall offense and quarterback play. But he also had only five touchdown receptions.

It will be a challenging Week 1 for Boyd and the Bengals passing game as they will have their rookie quarterback makes his debut against the Chargers who were 4th in aFPA to wide receivers.

With Green returning, Boyd's numbers will probably regress. He will have more value than Green in PPR leagues, but a lot of it will be determined on how the QB Joe Burrow will fare early in the season. Start Boyd as a WR3 or Flex against Los Angeles.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Tyler Boyd was excellent as the Bengals No. 1 receiver last season, replacing an injured A.J. Green. He was targeted 148 times, had 90 receptions for 1,046 career yards - all career highs. This all came with an average quarterback behind center. The Bengals bring in QB Joe Burrows to run the offense and even as a rookie could be a huge upgrade at the position. Cincy has a lot of offensive weapons that could help Burrows and make him successful which will trickle down to Boyd.

Fantasy Downside
The reason Boyd was the No. 1 receiver for Cincinnati was because A.J. Green was out the entire season with an injury. Green returns and although Boyd might be the top option, he will lose targets and catches to Green. Boyd's numbers last year were great, but more because of the volume than the substance. If you look at his production based on the number of targets he had, his numbers weren't at the same level as 2018 although fantasy doesn't care about that. It's just an indication that the numbers might not repeat themselves if the volume is not there.

2020 Bottom Line
With Green returning, Boyd will lose the targets therefore lower fantasy numbers. He is being drafted as a WR3 right now going in the seventh or eighth round with an ADP of 76. He still is a viable option as depth so expect to get about 82 catches for 971 yards and five touchdowns. The Bengals offense has the potential to do this if Burrow isn't a bust his rookie season.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Cleveland
The Bengals continue to play their starters and Tyler Boyd ended up with one of the best fantasy performances of the week with nine receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Everyone knows he is capable of these numbers and will probably continue as the No. 1 Bengals receiver into the next decade, no matter who the QB is,

Boyd will play against the Browns on Sunday who are ranked 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. He had five receptions for 75 yards in the first meeting between the two teams.

Expect similar numbers this week as Boyd should get a full workload. Start him as a solid WR2 for Week 17.

CIN WR Tyler Boyd - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Miami
Despite a struggling offense, Tyler Boyd remains relevant on a weekly basis. He did have a rough game last week with only three receptions for 26 yards. But he remains the No. 1 target in the Bengals passing game and is capable of putting up impactful numbers.

Boyd will face the Dolphins who are dead last in aFPA to wide receivers. The great mtachup coupled with Boyd's ability to still have big games this season makes him a great play this week.

Start Boyd as a solid WR2 in standard leagues for Week 16 and even higher for PPR leagues. Boyd is due for a big game and should have one in Miami.
