PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Baltimore Ravens

On the one hand, Pat Freiermuth led all Steelers in targets with George Pickens out last week. On the other, the team only ran 41 offensive plays and Freiermuth only caught 3 of his 6 targets for 22 yards and a touchdown. Considering the rest of the offense, it wasn't the worst performance, but just a reminder of how rough things can go without George Pickens.

The Ravens are 18th aFPA against tight ends and given the matchup and how he tends to get funneled targets without Pickens this seems like the best matchup for any of the Steelers' offensive playmakers. Freiermuth is TE8 on the week and I would keep him in my lineup unless I also had one of the top 7 as well.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland Browns

After a 3-week stretch that saw Darnell Washington have more targets than Pat Freiermuth, we have seen the pendulum swing back to Freiermuth. So much so, he led the team in targets last week.

The Browns are 21st aFPA against tight ends, so this is a really nice spot for Freiermuth. We've seen the Steelers get Freiermuth more involved lately, and that puts him in the TE1 conversation this week. The solid matchup certainly helps and he should be in your lineups this week.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Cincinnati Bengals

Pat Freiermuth finally had a decent game and all it took was wind and snow, apparently. That said, he's TE23 in our rankings this week and you surely have better options. While Cincinnati is 32nd aFPA against tight ends, he's more of a dart throw in DFS than a start in season-long.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Cleveland Browns

A stat I wasn't ready to believe is that since Week 8, Pat Freiermuth has actually seen fewer targets than Darnell Washington. Freiermuth has seen 7 targets while Washington has seen 8 targets. Not ideal for the starting tight end.

Luckily, with Cleveland on tap and ranking 25th aFPA against tight ends, the matchup is fairly easy for Freiermuth. Is he worth starting with potentially bad weather on tap? In theory, I would think fewer deeper passes might benefit Freiermuth, but the wind and rain could also be lighter than expected. Either way, he's a mid-range TE2 and even on byemageddon he's not looking like an option in standard leagues.

UPDATE: The wind will be lower than expected, around 9-11mph sustained during the game. It will be a mix of snow and rain, which isn't the worst, but something to note.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Washington had been decent against tight ends coming into their game against the Steelers so it wasn't too surprising that Pat Freiermuth didn't have a ton of production against them. But, the one thing tight ends need to do to be relevant is score a touchdown and he did do that.

The Ravens are 20th aFPA against tight ends so the matchup is decent for Freiermuth. We expect the Steelers to be playing from behind so it's not the worst spot for Freiermuth. He's a TE2 this week though, so he's likely only usable in TE premium leagues and hope for a touchdown.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Washington Commanders

Things should get interesting in the coming weeks for the Pittsburgh passing game as WR Mike Williams was added at the trade deadline. He doesn't look to be active this week, so the target tree remains condensed primarily around George Pickens, the running backs, and Pat Freiermuth.

Washington is 15th aFPA against tight ends so far this season so it's a middle-of-the-road matchup for Freiermuth. I'd feel much better about Freiermuth in 2TE or TE premium leagues as the tight-end landscape has improved to the point that I don't think you can use Freiermuth in standard leagues.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs, New York Giants

On the one hand, Pat Freiermuth had two catches go for over 20 yards last week. Unfortunately, they were his only two catches of the week and only had 3 targets. Freiermuth actually saw one fewer target than his backup, Darnell Washington, but his 51 yards outdid Washington's 36.

This isn't the best matchup as the Giants are 6th aFPA against tight ends. The difficult matchup and the increased usage for Washington make Freiermuth tough to put in a starting lineup. He's a mid-end TE2 and best left on the bench or waivers in a standard league. In TE Premium leagues you could probably get away with starting him, but there might be higher-upside options.
