PIT RB Najee Harris - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Najee Harris will continue to be the workhorse in the Steelers running game and there is plenty of reason for optimism. Pittsburgh has made a concerted effort to improve the offensive line including investing their first-round pick in tackle Broderick Jones. Harris and the offense as a whole will benefit from this addition. Another factor is Harris' health which was not good entering the 2022 season. His fantasy numbers the second half of the season after Week 9 made him a RB1 and were much better than his early season production where he was a RB3.

Fantasy Downside
Harris was one of the most inefficient running backs overall in the NFL last season after a strong rookie campaign. Although his second half numbers helped him, he was 31st of 33 qualifying running backs in yards per attempt and 27th of 33 in yards after contact.

2023 Bottom Line
The second half of the season should be an indicator that Harris should at least return to his rookie level production, although there is plenty of room to be even better. He currently is the No. 13 ranked running back in the preseason which means if you get him as your second running back, you will have drafted well. His ADP dictates him as an early third round pick so anyone with a pick in the upper half of their draft order will have a good chance to snag him and he will be good value as long as he is healthy.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Baltimore Ravens
Najee Harris has really bounced back nicely after a rough first half of the season. He had 22 touches for 95 yards. The carries have been good and he finally got involved in the passing game this past week. Harris hasn't been putting up big numbers but solid yardage because of the amount of carries.

Harris faces the Ravens who are ranked 7th in aFPA to running backs. In the first meeting with Baltimore this season, he had 14 touches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Start Harris as a high-end RB3 or Flex for Week 17. Expect similar numbers to the last time he played the Ravens, but probably with more touches.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Najee Harris was the workhorse in Carolina as the Steelers running game was the best it has been all year. He ran the ball a season-high 24 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. He still hasn't had a 100-yard rushing game in 2022, but has run the ball much better over the second half of the season.

Harris faces Las Vegas who is ranked 32nd in aFPA to running backs. Should be a good opportunity to keep the running game going so we expect a healthy dose of Harris on Saturday night.

Start Harris as a high-end RB2 for Week 16. The Steelers will be celebrating the life of recently deceased Hall of Famer Franco Harris so expect them to play with a lot of inspiration especially when running the football.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Carolina Panthers
Najee Harris only had 14 touches for 50 yards, but did score a touchdown to end up having a decent fantasy outing. Harris has been getting a lot more carries in the second half of the season so his numbers have been better overall.

Harris faces the Panthers who are ranked 24th in aFPA to running backs. If the Steelers can get him back to 20+ carries which has happened in recent weeks, he will be a good fantasy running back to have in your lineup.

Start Harris as an RB2 for Week 15. The Steelers offense isn't very good, but Harris can be a workhorse when they give him the chance.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Baltimore Ravens
Najee Harris did end up playing last week despite an oblique injury. He ended up rushing the ball 17 times for 86 yards. He has been much better over the last month and the Steelers have been able to run the ball efficiently the second half of the season.

Harris faces the Ravens who are ranked 4th in aFPA to running backs. He had mixed results against Baltimore last season and this year the Ravens have been better against good running backs.

Start Harris as a low-end RB2 for Week 14. Even though there have been some positives in recent weeks, this rivalry game is always a grind so Harris' production could be lower than recent weeks.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Indianapolis Colts
Najee Harris had his second straight 20-carry game in a row and had his best fantasy game of 2022. He rushed for 90 yards and also added 26 receiving yards. Harris also scored two rushing touchdowns after only scoring one the previous nine games.

Harris faces the Colts who are ranked 17th in aFPA to running backs. There has been some new life to Harris' fantasy stature as he came into the season as a top draft pick, but had not lived up to expectations. The touches over the last two weeks put Harris in that fantasy conversation again.

Start Harris as a low-end RB1 for Week 12. The numbers have been trending up for him and the touches dictate a strong fantasy outing against Indy.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Najee Harris had his best running game of the season rushing for 99 yards. However, he didn't have any receptions and didn't get into the end zone. He is having some issues with his foot but is expected to play Sunday. His snap total went down to 60% as rookie Jaylen Warren got more playing time, but it actually might have helped as he ran the ball better.

Harris faces the Bengals who are ranked 10th in aFPA to running backs. His production was minimal Week 1 against Cincy where he had 12 touches for 26 yards. He did not have good games against the Bengals in 2021 either.

Start Harris but only as a high-end RB3 or Flex. With him getting less snaps, that could mean less production despite what happened last Sunday. He also has a matchup that is not favorable.
