Scouting report

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Baltimore Ravens

Like the rest of the Steelers' offense, Jaylen Warren struggled against the Eagles. They only ran 41 offensive plays, so with the volume down, there wasn't much for Warren to do. He was more efficient than Najee Harris on the ground, but that's nothing new. Warren still struggles to get close to a 50/50 split with Harris no matter how much more efficient he is.

The Ravens are tougher on the ground than they are through the air as they rank 10th aFPA against running backs. Given that there are no byes this week, Warren is back-end RB3/flex option, but just keep in mind how low the floor can be here. Given all the injuries this week, there might be a better option elsewhere.

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Philadelphia Eagles

The trend of Jaylen Warren not getting as much work as Najee Harris, but being much more efficient on his limited touches continued against Cleveland. Warren continues to put up better yardage totals on fewer touches and targets, but Arthur Smith and Mike Tomlin are committed to Harris in a 65-35 split.

It is a really tough matchup for the Steelers this week against the Eagles as they are 5th aFPA against running backs. I'd feel more comfortable starting Warren in PPR sites, but he's an RB3/flex option regardless.

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland Browns

It was a weird week for Jaylen Warren against the Bengals. Warren was barely involved in a game with 82 points and Russell Wilson throwing for 400+ yards. In fact, Cordarrelle Patterson got a touch before Warren last week. I don't think it will carry over to this week, but it is something to monitor.

Cleveland is 7th aFPA against running backs, but we know Warren will get more of his points through the air than on the ground. Warren is more of a flex option this week, but the massive bye week puts him in the RB2 conversation.

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Cincinnati Bengals

For the better part of two years, Jaylen Warren has been more efficient than Najee Harris, but it hasn't ever seemed to translate into more work for Warren. That was again the case last week against the Browns. With that in mind, we have to remember that Warren will always look better in PPR scoring as he's more involved in the passing game.

The Bengals are 7th aFPA against running backs, so that could slightly help Warren through the air. Especially if Harris continues to be super inefficient, but like always, Arthur Smith is in charge, so who knows? I'd feel better having Warren in PPR and possibly in standard leagues as well. He's a flex option this week.

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Cleveland Browns

We saw Jaylen Warren continue to be efficient in a limited role behind Najee Harris and while he's not going to take over the 1A role, he's still a fantasy-viable player even in tough matchups.

This week is pretty dicey with six teams on bye so players we may not have felt super comfortable starting are now in the conversation. I think Warren would have viability even in a normal week just because of his passing work, but given the bye situation, he's a flex option in all formats despite facing the 6th-ranked defense against running backs per aFPA. It gets pretty bleak this week!

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Jaylen Warren saw a bigger workload in Week 10 which paid off Arthur Smith's confidence in him. While Najee Harris struggled on the ground, Jaylen Warren was efficient on his 14 carries for 66 yards and caught both of his targets for 29 yards. Warren has consistently been more efficient than Harris, and the hope has been he goes from the 1B to the 1A. It seems unlikely a change like that ever happens, but he's making a case for a bigger workload.

The Ravens are 11th aFPA against running backs, and while things will be difficult on the ground for Warren this week, the hope is he sees some extra work through the air. Warren is an RB3/flex option this week and thankfully doesn't need a touchdown to pay off. He'll need a few catches though. I'd feel better starting Warren than Harris this week.

PIT RB Jaylen Warren - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Washington Commanders

While the touches continue to tick up each week, you were certainly hoping for closer to a 50/50 split with Najee Harris when you drafted Jaylen Warren. Instead, you're looking at closer to 60/40 and Harris actually saw more targets last week. If there was one thing you felt good about with Warren, it was probably his role in the passing game, but it has been much more even under Arthur Smith.

The Commanders are 18th aFPA against running backs this year and while the matchup is solid for Warren, his role has been a bit tougher to trust. While Warren is definitely in flex consideration most weeks, he's likely closer to an RB3 this week with the combination of matchups and byes.
