Step Your Game Up: FantasyFeud Week 12 Values & Top Plays

Welcome to Week 12.

We’re officially done with bye weeks (huzzah!), but we do have some extra mid-week games this week (more on that below). Last weekend’s injury carnage robbed us of a few familiar faces and we’ll need to figure out which of the new guys we can trust. I think you basically have to get some exposure to the Saints-Texans game this weekend, but let’s see what else Week 12 has to offer us.

The Stuffing

We normally don’t cover Thursday games, but there are three Thanksgiving Day games so we wanted to add a little extra love for this week. Why’d I call this section The Stuffing? Because stuffing is the best Thanksgiving food and we can’t be friends if you disagree.

Anyway, onto a few thoughts for each position on Turkey Day:

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers has a better matchup than Cam Newton, but I’d go with Cam if you’re going to spend up at quarterback (I don’t think Rodgers’ price bump is worth the point difference -- if there even is one). Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler are both worth a look to pair up with Cam (or you could just use both), but I’d stay away from Tony Romo and his matchup with a tough Panthers defense.

Running Back

I’m not sure that I like any of the top-priced guys a whole lot, but I think I’d start with either Eddie Lacy (who looked good last weekend) or Matt Forte (who is supposedly healthy) and go from there. DeMarco Murray is the best play, but I’d probably land on Jonathan Stewart over Murray or Darren McFadden if I’m taking both price and matchup into account. If you’re looking for a punt play, I’d give Joique Bell some consideration at a really cheap price.

Wide Receiver

I’m not messing around with Dez Bryant this weekend outside of a tourney play, due to his matchup with Josh Norman. I’d much rather pay $5,200 less for Calvin Johnson in a much better matchup. In that same vein, Golden Tate is a nice mid-range play, while Randall Cobb would be third on my list of players to target. If you’re looking for a cheap option that (obviously) comes with some risk, I’d look towards Ted Ginn, Devin Funchess, Cole Beasley, and Marquess Wilson.

Tight End

Stuck in a tough matchup, Greg Olsen probably isn’t worth his price this weekend. While Jason Witten and his bromance with Tony Romo are tempting, I’d just as likely pay the extra $4,100 and go with Martellus Bennett (especially if Alshon Jeffery sits again). Eric Ebron and Brent Celek are both worthy of consideration, while Justin Perillo is your tourney play if you’re looking to get crazy.

Defense

The Packers are the play here if you have a bunch of money left, but the Lions are looking pretty nice at a minimum price. In a home matchup against a devolving Eagles offense, the Lions should be able to at least pay off their price this weekend.

Week 12 Plays

Quarterback

Step 1: Josh McCown ($95,000) vs. BAL

It doesn’t get any cheaper at the quarterback position this week than Josh McCown and he also has a great matchup against the Ravens and their 31st aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. McCown was playing pretty well before he got injured three weeks ago and is actually averaging more fantasy points per game than Matt Ryan this season. I don’t particularly trust McCown and the dysfunctional Browns (read: not a cash game play), but he’s thrown two or more touchdown passes in five of his last six games and is worth a look as a punt play.
