49ers beat: No WR1 in San Francisco

In his latest 49ers mailbag, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area says "the 49ers to do not have a No. 1 receiver. Let's clear that up right now."

Fantasy Impact:

This response came in regards to several questions from Maiocco about the wide receivers, including supposed No. 1 receiver Dante Pettis. Maiocco states Pettis has been solid in camp and would not call him a disappointment. But he did say Pettis "should be stepping up and making more plays." Maiocco also believes this has led to rookies Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd becoming standouts during training camp.

Maiocco's thoughts on the group as a whole were that he's "not sure the 49ers have a classic No. 2, either. They might have a bunch of 2.5s and 3s." But he believes head coach Kyle Shanahan is just fine with that. Unfortunately, this does put a damper on the stock of Pettis, who is currently being selected in the 7th round in 12-team leagues. That said, perhaps this will knock him back a round or two and not be as much of a risk.

Also, Maiocco is standing firm on his belief from the beginning of training camp that Trent Taylor will lead the team in receptions this season. Taylor is free in drafts at this point.
