Brett Favre began telling Vikings officials last night he will NOT return for a 20th season.
Favre is expected to issue a press release later today. Keep in mind this is Brett Favre and it is Aug. 3.
I'm told Favre has said his ankle has simply not responded and that is why he won't be back.
There is a chance ownership will go back to Favre with an offer of more than the 13 million for this season.
Keep in mind I'm hearing Vikings still feel the situation is fluid. As I said before still time to talk him out of it.
This is obviously huge news as basically everyone has been reporting that Brett Favre most likely would end up playing for the Vikings this season. Favre wasn't expected to report until around August 16th, so there is still time for him to change his mind -- which given that this is Brett Favre certainly wouldn't be a shocker.
We will follow this story closely here and keep you in the loop. If Favre does indeed stay retired all MIN WRs and TE will take a pretty good hit, while AP will likely stay as the #2 RB. Tavaris Jackson would be the expected starter but would likely be a borderline QB2 when all shakes out.
