Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera expects all four Panthers quarterbacks, including Cam Newton, to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic.
Rodrigue adds the Panthers coaches are still trying to settle on a concrete plan for Thursday. In all likelihood, if Newton does play, he will only play one series, as is typical of most starters in Week 1 of the preseason. This will allow Newton to get some game action under his belt as he continues to regain his pre-shoulder injury form. The progress continues to be positive surrounding Newton. The other quarterbacks on the depth chart are rookie Will Grier, Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke.
