Donovan McNabb’s ankle is too sore for him to play in the Washington Redskins’ last preseason game, and coach Mike Shanahan isn’t saying for certain whether the quarterback will be ready in time for the regular-season opener against Dallas.
McNabb sprained his left ankle in the second preseason game against Baltimore and sat out Friday’s game against the New York Jets.
Shanahan said Sunday that McNabb is day to day. The coach doesn’t "know for sure" whether McNabb will be ready to face the Cowboys on Sept. 12.
McNabb likely wouldn’t have played this week anyway because Shanahan prefers to rest his starter in the final exhibition game to avoid injury. No. 2 quarterback Rex Grossman has said he won’t play this week either.
If Rex Grossman lines up under center on opening night for Washington, those who have the Dallas defense should be happy. McNabb isn't the sure-fire fantasy player he used to be, but at his current ADP, he was projected to be a nice bargain. This injury is something to watch, but at this point there is not a huge risk in drafting McNabb. Just make sure you get a second quarterback you can count on if needed.
