JaMarcus Russell has timing issues

Raiders quarterback Jamarcus Russell continued his maddening camp trend of chasing a pretty good practice with a pretty bad one.

Raiders coach Tom Cable brought it up after Tuesday morning's practice. And, if Cable is criticizing Russell in any way when the tape recorders are on, there is always a reason behind it -- just as he was making a point in the offseason when saying Russell needed to work harder and lead more.

Cable wants to see Russell put two good practices together already. Since injured veteran Jeff Garcia isn't healthy enough to push Russell, it looks like Cable will go back to doing the pushing.

"At times, he ripped it," Cable said. "He had that streak where he really targeted well and all that and then he got on a roll where everything was overthrow and overthrow."

So what's the real issue, according to Cable?

Timing. He said the receivers are on time with their routes but Russell isn't always on time with his throw. He holds onto the ball too long still, thinking his strong arm will buy him that extra second to get it there.
