Pierce wanted to see if Aidan O'Connell gave the offense "a spark" and wouldn't rule out a QB change this week.

Minshew threw for 214 yards with a TD and INT. O'Connell came in and went 9-for-12 for 82 yards and a TD. The Raiders were stunned by Andy Dalton and the Panthers and couldn't overcome a 27-7 deficit heading into the fourth quarter. The Raiders will likely make a decision later this week about their Week 4 QB. The Raiders host the Brown in a later afternoon game.

The Raiders have named Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback.

Head coach Antonio Pierce made the announcement Sunday after a camp battle between Minshew and Aidan O’Connell. It was a close battle all the way through. Both threw for just under 100 yards Saturday against the Cowboys. In the end, the veteran wins out. The Raiders gave Minshew $15 million guaranteed in free agency after he nearly led the Colts to the playoffs last season. Minshew and the Raiders open the season September 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Raiders’ quarterback competition may be over at this time next week.

Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew are vying for the starting job in Las Vegas and O’Connell got the start in the team’s first preseason game. Minshew is set to start the second game against the Cowboys on August 17 and head coach Antonio Pierce said on Sunday that he thinks that will be enough information to make a call about who will be under center in Week 1.

The story went on to say O’Connell and Minshew both led scoring drives during their time in the preseason opener and Pierce said he thought both players did well, so there’s not much of a hint about which way he’s leaning as decision day draws closer.

"That's the plan, to have both those guys really compete through the offseason program, but more so in training camp, and we'll see how it plays out."

The Raiders are set for a QB battle in camp with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell.

O'Connell had a decent enough rookie season, but still only managed 6.5 yards per pass attempt. Minshew would likely offer more upside for the fantasy pieces in Las Vegas.

O'Connell, Minshew, and possibly a first-round NFL Draft selection (Michael Penix?) will make up the quarterback controversy heading into the long Summer months, and it's hard to get excited about any of them.

Minshew performed admirably in steed of Anthony Richardson, but this doesn't do a lot for fantasy purposes. He has proven that he doesn't mind honing in on a #1 option, so should he win the job, Davante Adams should expect plenty of targets.

Colts QB Anthony Richardson is scheduling season-ending shoulder surgery, with multiple opinions believing it is the only way to fix his significant AC joint injury. Richardson is already on Injured Reserve and doing right by Indy’s franchise QB is paramount.

The writing was on the wall, but this makes it official. It will be the Minshew Show from here on out, and he will a Superflex QB2 option in the right matchups.

Richardson injured his shoulder in Week 5 and has spent the last week getting evaluations and opinions from doctors about next steps. On Monday, Colts owner Jim Irsay told Stephen Holder of ESPN.com that Richardson is likely having surgery in the coming days and that he is unlikely to be back on the field during the 2023 campaign.

We reported on Monday the Colts and Richardson were discussing season-ending surgery as an option. With the Colts likely not poised for a deep playoff run, the team is thinking about the future of their franchise QB and it seems like they are pretty close to the surgery option. Richardson flashed in his short time on the field, throwing three TDs and just one INT. With really only three full games under his belt, Richardson twice rushed 10 times and rushed for four TDs in that three-game span.

Colts QB Anthony Richardson could opt for season-ending shoulder surgery, and coach Shane Steichen was asked whether the Colts will take a longer-term view of their franchise quarterback.

“Yeah, that makes sense,’’ Steichen said, via Mike Chappell of Fox 59. “It is a priority. Obviously, we want to do what’s best for him and this organization moving forward. Like I said, we will make the decision when the time is right. We’re still evaluating that process.’’

Richardson was diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain to the AC joint in his right shoulder after being injured eight days ago. Owner Jim Irsay, General Manager Chris Ballard, Steichen and the medical staff will consult with Richardson and his representation when it comes time to make the decision, the story said.

With Anthony Richardson out at least four weeks, Gardner Minshew becomes the Colts’ QB1. Colts also signed QB Kellen Mond to their practice squad.

Minshew becomes an intriguing streaming target in deep leagues, but his Week 6 matchup against the Jaguars isn't the best place to plug him in. Richardson should be kept in IR slots wherever possible.
