Eddy Pineiro was the only kicker to make it through the cut to 53 players in Chicago, but he won’t be playing against the Lions in Sunday’s opener to the 2020 season.

The Bears announced on Tuesday that Pineiro has been placed on injured reserve.

Santos competed with Pineiro this summer and signed to the Bears practice squad after getting released last weekend. He can be added to the active roster or called up to kick before being returned to the practice squad after the game. The Bears could make that move twice before Santos would have to be released and re-signed in order to remain with the team.

The Titans are flying in former Bears K Cody Parkey tonight and he’s expected to sign tomorrow.

Santos missed four field goals this past week and loses his job as a result. Parkey, of Bears double-doink fame, now takes over.

The Bucs are signing free agent K Cairo Santos, source said. They worked him out recently and had him ready when they released Chandler Catanzaro.

Cutting Cairo Santos is an indication that All-Pro kicker Greg Zuerlein is ready to return from his groin injury.

HC Sean McVay noted on Monday that Zuerlein had a chance to return this week, but that chance now appears to be reality, the story went on to say.

The Rams are waiving kicker Sam Ficken and signing Cairo Santos, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The job is temporary until Greg Zuerlein is ready to return, and the veteran kicker appears close to returning.

The Bears brought Cairo Santos in for a physical last Thursday and he returned Monday to sign a contract as the replacement for Connor Barth.

An NFL source told the Tribune Santos is at Halas Hall and has a one-year deal in place to become the team’s new kicker with six games remaining in the regular season.

The Chiefs parked kicker Cairo Santos during the preseason because of a groin injury, and now they’re going to be without him for at least eight weeks.

The team announced they had placed Santos on injured reserve, and signed rookie Harrison Butker off the Panthers practice squad.

Butker was actually on the Panthers 53-man roster to start the season, while the waited to see if they could swing a trade for either him or Graham Gano. The seventh-round pick from Georgia Tech has a strong leg and nearly unseated Gano.
